    and developmental results of the project The project s ultimate outcome is improved nutritional status of children under five and pregnant and lactating women in Dowa and Kasungu Districts in the Central Region of Malawi The intermediate outcomes are Improved delivery of nutritional services to pregnant and lactating women and children under 5 in target districts Improved nutritional practices among vulnerable women and men in target districts Improved local enabling environment to sustain nutrition outcomes within target areas and Increased women s economic and social empowerment in target districts The MAZIKO project works on multiple dimensions of malnutrition to address immediate nutrition service delivery at community and facility level through support for Health Surveillance Assistants Community Therapeutic Care Providers Community Promoters Growth Monitoring Volunteers Care Groups and Community Management of Acute Malnutrition household nutritional practices of women and men through improved knowledge supported by Community Promoters Lead Farmers and Care Groups the underlying determinants that contribute to malnutrition including hygiene and sanitation and support for Village Health Committees using the Community Integrated Management of Childhood Illness strategy and the social and economic empowerment of women through Village Savings and Loan groups and support for income generating activities that enable parents
