    members to foster greater harmonization of partners activities and better alignment with the Convergence Plan and also to support COMIFAC in negotiating the shared positions of Member States at regional and international meetings concerning natural resource management and climate change Organization facilitation Helping to organize and facilitate regional and international meetings on forest and environmental resource management and or various themes and issues in sustainable management of Congo Basin forests Promotion representation Promoting representing and acting as spokesperson for CBFP regionally and internationally in support of COMIFAC and its Convergence Plan This included participating in international meetings on forest and environmental resource management identifying new members and helping them become CBFP members Contributing to the expected results in cooperation with the other parties and stakeholders involved Providing sound financial and administrative management of the resources allocated to the Canadian facilitator in keeping with the service contract and approved administrative and financial procedures Producing the various activity result and financial reports The Canadian Facilitator also helped to guide the work plan of the team in Yaoundé and carried out the assignment in close coordination and cooperation with the team The CBFP which includes Canada is an association that comprises 53 governmental intergovernmental and non governmental organizations It links donors and executing agencies and serves as a forum for dialogue among partners but is not directly involved in implementing or funding programs The Congo Basin Forest Partnership was launched at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002 upon the initiative of the United States and South Africa as a non binding partnership registered with the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development The CBFP is also in response to the Yaoundé Declaration formulated by the Heads of State of Central African countries in March 1999 to affirm their willingness to

    also developing capacity at district and regional levels to respond to community identified priorities and initiatives Project Description The Community Driven Initiatives for Food Security project is an integral part of CIDA s overall food security strategy for northern Ghana CIFS seeks to achieve a sustainable increase in household food security in the 10 districts of the Eastern Corridor northern region of Ghana by strengthening the existing community sub district district and regional mechanisms that support community driven rural development demonstrating through the successful participatory planning and implementation of initiatives that CDD is an effective way of increasing household food security CIFS has two components Component II CIFS II is the budgetary support process through which funds are provided to the districts to implement food security initiatives CIFS II is the responsibility of the Ministry of Local Government Rural Development and Environment MLGRDE Component I CIFS I which is the subject of this report focuses on developing capacity for local government and other key project stakeholders supporting participatory processes in selected communities identifying priority food security initiatives within the selected districts and communities Environment gender HIV AIDS and conflict management are mainstreamed as CIFS cross cutting themes CIFS I is being implemented in coordination with the Northern Regional Coordinating Unit RPCU Results As of March 31 2008 the accumulated results to date of CIFS activities are as follows 250 communities in 10 districts are engaged at various stages of food security planning coordination with local government structures and implementation of food security initiatives CIFS has supported 190 communities in developing Community Action Plans that articulate their development priorities and that they can use in advocating for resources CIFS has supported 74 Area Councils in the preparation of their Area Level Plans which are used to inform district and regional level

    and more efficient effective and equitable delivery of government services Key government officials were involved in all elements of the project management cycle from the development of the proposal through the implementation monitoring and evaluation of individual initiatives Now in an extension phase January 2007 March 2009 GAP and the GoM are capitalizing on gains made during the first part of the project to deepen and strengthen capacity and institutionalize results Project Description In the first phase GAP supported strategic interventions in CIDA s sectors of focus education health water supply and gender By concentrating on the ministries and institutions in these sectors GAP worked to increase the sustainability impact and synergy of CIDA s overall program in Malawi While maintaining this focus GAP was sufficiently flexible to respond to other central ministries and institutions that are key to public sector reform Following on the results achieved in the first phase GAP shifted its mandate during the extension to focus on the three areas that were realizing the greatest impact Policy Development and Management Systems Works within the Office of the President and Cabinet through individual coaching and mentoring to increase capacity for executive decision making and the skills and knowledge required to integrate policy planning legislation budgeting and reporting processes Strategic Planning Focuses on facilitating the development of Strategic Implementation Plans and aligning budgets with these plans Fifteen government ministries and 13 key departments have accomplished this component In addition this initiative focuses on increasing the ability of ministries and the Office of the Cabinet and President to monitor the implementation of the plans and accountability Strategic Leadership Works with the Department of Human Resource Management and Development in the management of standardized leadership and management training across the GoM This initiative also increases the capacity of service providers

  • Ghana Farmer Responsive Mechanism in Extension and Research (in association with CHF) 2002-2007 | Projects | Agriteam Canada
    FARMER supported innovative research activities that directly responded to the food security needs of farmers in this unique region partners included the Savanna Agriculture Research Institute SARI the Animal Research Institute ARI the Water Research Institute WRI and the University of Development Studies UDS Promising food security initiatives were extended to farmers through the Ministry of Agriculture regional and district offices and non governmental extension service partners At the centre of research and extension service design and delivery was the adoption and expansion of participatory approaches which focused on the food security needs and livelihood strategies of men and women farmers The project had three main objectives a improve access to and use of demand driven agricultural information and technology by low income and resource poor farm households agro processors marketers and communities in north Ghana b develop and adopt more diversified sustainable and appropriate agricultural technology to improve farm and household management and c develop models of collaboration and partnership for relevant agricultural information and technology generation transfer and utilization in northern Ghana Additionally the project is integrating the cross cutting themes of gender equality the environment HIV AIDS and ethnic conflict mitigation into all project activities English Français

    they were often managed from the top down and implemented in an ad hoc manner Consequently policy implementation planning and in services were not resulting in desired changes in educator practice It was in this context of transformation that CSATDP worked in support of South African educational leaders Project implementation proceeded iteratively to respond to the ever changing South African education context Approach Within the post apartheid context it was imperative that Agriteam and Alberta s Ministry of Education facilitate a genuine working partnership with the South African government In the end the Department of Education felt ownership and responsibility of the project As well with an understanding of effective education reform we supported the DOE to manage teacher development from a systems perspective by working at all levels of the system with an emphasis on consultation participation and collaboration Our focus was on building the capacity of organizations within the system the TDD provincial departments of education school districts and schools themselves to improve the system of teacher development Based on Canadian approaches to reform CSATDP promoted educators as professionals and lifelong learners This two pronged approach has led to changes that continue to be sustained long after the end of the project Project Description The six year project involved working closely with the national Teacher Development Directorate TDD and the provincial departments of education in Free State Gauteng and Mpumalanga At the national level CSATDP supported the TDD by providing its staff with consultation management planning and communication skills We also worked closely with the Ministerial Committee on Teacher Education to use a consultative process as they drafted the teacher development framework and the teacher development policy and implementation plan At the provincial level CSATDP worked with DOE organizations to meet their capacity needs required to support teacher
