    a database the use of which facilitates timely identification of Canadian Implementing Partners for specific sub projects Agriteam particularly endeavors to engage government partners their expertise is frequently the most appropriate and there are significant cost savings to the sub projects Project Description POP builds on the results practices goodwill and linkages established through the PPOP and the PSRP These projects assisted China in understanding a broad range of policy options that are both responsive to the Chinese desire to move forward on socio economic reform and reflective of Canada s development assistance policy They have enhanced Canada s reputation as a country to look to for solid advice and experience on democratic development practices based on the rule of law With these projects as a foundation POP is distinguishing itself via an approach based on the progress that China has already made and the new needs that such progress implies POP continues to support policy formulation using Canadian expertise but it focuses on how such expertise is used and its ultimate impact on progress toward the goals of the Government of China and CIDA s Country Development Policy Framework The aim of POP is not only to assist China with information and advice but also to provide the capacity development support that enables such advice to produce tangible and measurable outcomes This emphasis means that stakeholders work together to find creative ways of identifying appropriate partners developing results oriented projects applying innovative strategies to implement these projects and more vigorous ways of supporting monitoring and measuring results Results Senior Canadian federal and provincial ministries NGOs universities and private sector missions to China have had the opportunity to engage with Chinese client ministries in ways which would not otherwise have been possible We have recommended that more balanced approaches be

    Implementing Partners Save the Children Canada Agri Service Ethiopia Project Description The Productive Safety Net Program PSNP is a wide ranging initiative targeting some of the underlying causes of food insecurity in Ethiopia Led by the Government of Ethiopia with the support of CIDA and other donors the program helps to meet the food needs of some of the country s most impoverished people in the time between harvests The program is designed to provide predictable multi year transfers of either food or cash to chronically food insecure people The World Food Program and the World Bank are engaged in implementing this project Agriteam is implementing the Safety Net Support Facility component of the program which was designed to contribute to the effective delivery of the Productive Safety Net Program The Safety Net Support Facility supports activities to enhance the technical administrative and management capacity of government partners as they implement PSNP and the Household Asset Building Program English Français View by Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Community Development Education and Education Reform Environment Gender Equality Governance and Public Sector Reform Health and Population Legal and Judicial Reform Private Sector Development View by Region Americas and the Caribbean Americas and the

  • Advancing Education for Democracy with the Community of Democracies | Projects | Agriteam Canada
    the Community of Democracies this project provided technical support for the operationalization and promotion of Education for Democracy EfD through the development of a curriculum framework which could be used internationally to support the teaching and learning of democratic values and principles The project s ultimate outcomes were enhanced understanding and skills for implementing Education for Democracy and increased access to quality EfD teaching and learning resources The project utilized a consultative process for the development and drafting of a comprehensive curriculum framework which significantly emphasized the mainstreaming of democratic values and principles into education systems in addition to the more conventional approach of teaching content on democracy The framework has been disseminated broadly including presentations at the government oriented 2013 Asia Pacific Conference of the Community of Democracies New Delhi and at the civil society oriented 2013 Conference of the Council for a Community of Democracies Charlottesville which serves as the secretariat for an international network of democracy oriented NGOs The final Curriculum Framework was also distributed to delegates of the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia English Français View by Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Community Development Education and Education Reform Environment Gender Equality

    helped CIDA to assess the continuing local relevance of the project the progress of the project towards achieving expected results including gender equality results and the cost effectiveness of the project Peru A Plan for the Improvement of Granulated Panela Quality and its Efficient Marketing November 2011 December 2012 Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Region Americas and the Caribbean The project was designed to improve revenues for small scale panela producers in the Andean Foothills of Peru s Northern Region of Piura Panela is unrefined whole cane sugar containing most of the nutritional components high vitamin and mineral content normally removed in the industrial production of refined white sugar Democratic Republic of Congo Canadian Facilitation for the Congo Basin Forests Partnership July 2010 July 2012 Sector Environment Region Sub Saharan Africa The purpose of this assignment was to coordinate and facilitate activities related to the Congo Basin Forest Partnership CBFP The Facilitator helped to maintain and strengthen the vitality of this regional cooperation pursue dialogue among members develop and update the CBFP roadmap so that partners activities are better harmonized and promote the CBFP to the international community Peru Improving Basic Education in Piura March 2001 March 2012 Sector Education and Education Reform Region Americas and the Caribbean This project strengthened basic education in Peru by developing the capacity of educational administrators and service providers in the region of Piura The project focused on four key components 1 strengthening the institutional capacity and human resources of basic education 2 developing and facilitating the implementation of educational programs 3 coordinating project activities in rural environments and 4 mainstreaming gender and participation in the project It aimed to improve access to and quality of pre school and primary education for rural children and to produce a model for basic education in Piura that could be reproduced in other parts of the country The project worked with the Dirección Regional de Educación the regional arm of the Ministry of Education and the Agentes de Desarrollo Educativo and Coordinaciones Educativas intermediary organizations that work in support of the Dirección Regional de Educación Pakistan Canada Pakistan HIV AIDS Surveillance Project HASP October 2003 October 2011 Sector Health and Population Region South Asia Agriteam Canada Consulting Ltd was the lead firm in a consortium that also included the University of Manitoba and ProAction Partners for Community Health in implementing the Canada Pakistan HIV AIDS Surveillance Project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency The project enhanced the capacity of the Government of Pakistan to implement an effective Second Generation Surveillance SGS system for HIV AIDS HASP was a capacity building project that involved working with the National AIDS Control Program Provincial AIDS Control Programs and other stakeholders to develop a sustainable SGS system for HIV AIDS HASP succeeded in putting in place an effective SGS system which identifies population sub groups at increased risk for HIV and other Sexually Transmitted Infections provides timely warning of sudden changes in levels or distribution of HIV or of risk behaviours

    Sub Saharan Africa This is a capacity development project with a critical role to play in assisting the Government of Nigeria GON to improve the efficiency effectiveness quality and accessibility of its PHC programs and services and to improve the health of Nigerians The project aims to create sustainable replicable models for improved PHC provision in Bauchi and Cross River States Pakistan Province of Punjab Systems Oriented Health Investment Program SOHIP January 2006 December 2010 Sector Health and Population Region South Asia The goal of SOHIP is to improve the quality of primary health care especially for the female population and to increase access to health services by poor women and men Some of the key planned activities will be Developing training materials modules and training of trainers to strengthen the health promotion and health education training of staff including supervisors outreach workers nurses and health visitors Training district level and provincial staff on management systems strengthening including on issues of evidence based planning community consultation supportive supervision and gender based analysis Organizing semi annual Health Forums that allow district health managers to exchange information ideas and innovations across districts Post graduate training for District Health Management Diploma Facilitating an annual Punjab district health datasheet with comparative indicators of performance to motivate districts to strengthen services and system improvements Supporting policy relevant research according to the priorities of the Department of Health Developing pilot models and tools that facilitate community involvement in planning managing and or monitoring local health services Improving the quality of health management systems as perceived by provincial and district health sector managers and district governments Mongolia Training for Rural Development Mongolia January 2004 December 2010 Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Region North and Central Asia The project will improve rural livelihoods in Mongolia evidenced by increased net income for rural households improved social and living conditions and increased opportunities for rural women and poor The project will improve the institutional capacity of MSUA and its associated research institutes and strengthen of the national extension service A producer driven research system will make applied research more relevant to rural development The development of an extension training department at MSUA and strengthening the research capabilities of MSUA staff at the university and its branches this project will facilitate training of agrologists for effective transfer of information throughout the Mongolian agricultural community New and sustainable crop and livestock production methods will improve productivity and in turn profitability in the rural economy which will help to diminish poverty and food security issues in Mongolia People s Republic of China Gansu and Xinjiang Pastoral Development Project Monitoring and Evaluation July 2007 December 2010 Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Region North and Central Asia In the early implementation stage this project will assess the progress of a World Bank funded project supporting sustainable resource management initiatives in the globally significant areas of the Tian Shan and Altai Shan of Xinjiang and the Qilian Shan in Gansu Ghana Eastern Corridor Districts of the Northern Region

    improve revenues for small scale panela producers in the Andean Foothills of Peru s Northern Region of Piura Panela is unrefined whole cane sugar containing most of the nutritional components high vitamin and mineral content normally removed in the industrial production of refined white sugar Improved revenues for this product were achieved through focusing on the following initiatives a Panela marketing reinforcing organic and HAACP certification and establishing a reliable market for panela in Canada and a model for trading panela to international markets b Improved cane production increasing the quantity of panela being produced by assisting producer groups to improve cane husbandry techniques c Improved processing working with producer groups to improve the extraction and processing of harvested cane and d Support for producer councils reinforcing the internal organization of producer groups and assisting CEPICAFE with their marketing strategies Emphasis was placed on the cross cutting themes of environment and gender to ensure that the product can be sustainably produced on mountainous land and with benefits to women men and children Project Director Alex Schumacher aschumacher agriteam ca English Français View by Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Community Development Education and Education Reform Environment Gender Equality Governance and Public Sector
