    a database the use of which facilitates timely identification of Canadian Implementing Partners for specific sub projects Agriteam particularly endeavors to engage government partners their expertise is frequently the most appropriate and there are significant cost savings to the sub projects Project Description POP builds on the results practices goodwill and linkages established through the PPOP and the PSRP These projects assisted China in understanding a broad range of policy options that are both responsive to the Chinese desire to move forward on socio economic reform and reflective of Canada s development assistance policy They have enhanced Canada s reputation as a country to look to for solid advice and experience on democratic development practices based on the rule of law With these projects as a foundation POP is distinguishing itself via an approach based on the progress that China has already made and the new needs that such progress implies POP continues to support policy formulation using Canadian expertise but it focuses on how such expertise is used and its ultimate impact on progress toward the goals of the Government of China and CIDA s Country Development Policy Framework The aim of POP is not only to assist China with information and advice but also to provide the capacity development support that enables such advice to produce tangible and measurable outcomes This emphasis means that stakeholders work together to find creative ways of identifying appropriate partners developing results oriented projects applying innovative strategies to implement these projects and more vigorous ways of supporting monitoring and measuring results Results Senior Canadian federal and provincial ministries NGOs universities and private sector missions to China have had the opportunity to engage with Chinese client ministries in ways which would not otherwise have been possible We have recommended that more balanced approaches be

  • Advancing Education for Democracy with the Community of Democracies | Projects | Agriteam Canada
    the Community of Democracies this project provided technical support for the operationalization and promotion of Education for Democracy EfD through the development of a curriculum framework which could be used internationally to support the teaching and learning of democratic values and principles The project s ultimate outcomes were enhanced understanding and skills for implementing Education for Democracy and increased access to quality EfD teaching and learning resources The project utilized a consultative process for the development and drafting of a comprehensive curriculum framework which significantly emphasized the mainstreaming of democratic values and principles into education systems in addition to the more conventional approach of teaching content on democracy The framework has been disseminated broadly including presentations at the government oriented 2013 Asia Pacific Conference of the Community of Democracies New Delhi and at the civil society oriented 2013 Conference of the Council for a Community of Democracies Charlottesville which serves as the secretariat for an international network of democracy oriented NGOs The final Curriculum Framework was also distributed to delegates of the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Community of Democracies in Ulaanbaatar Mongolia English Français View by Sector Agriculture and Agribusiness Community Development Education and Education Reform Environment Gender Equality

  • Livestock Health Extension Services Project (LHESP) | Projects | Agriteam Canada
    disease which could quickly destroy their livelihoods Unsafe and unhealthy livestock farming practices pose significant animal and human health risks and could undo many benefits that have been achieved to date An animal health extension system that responds to the needs of smallholders is essential to meet the growing demand for safe and healthy livestock products fulfill WTO OIE standards and support sustainable economic and social development of the western regions Approach The LHESP uses an integrated approach that links national livestock health policy reforms with innovative regulatory frameworks for delivery monitoring and evaluation at the farm level and in the marketplace Training programs in Canada and China expose senior decision makers to new OIE compliant policy and regulatory options and contribute to more effective policy development The LHESP engages all levels of government as well as the private sector farmers association and the farmers themselves Village based pilot projects ensure that policy links to practice in a way that leads to the development of a sustainable effective system of livestock health extension Project Description The LHESP promotes public health through the prevention and control of animal diseases by assisting China to meet its OIE compliance requirements This contributes directly to good governance transparency and reliable information sharing between international parties Capacity building is carried out with institutional partners such as the Ministry of Agriculture MOA Veterinary Bureau the China Center for Animal Disease Control and the China Animal Health and Epidemiology Center Good governance in animal health services also involves establishing partnerships with the private sector including private veterinary practitioners agribusinesses and farmers Each of these stakeholders has an important role to play in the prevention detection and control of animal diseases These industry participants are actively involved in the project s planning training and pilot activities Results The

    and impacts in 19 counties in Gansu and 24 counties in Xinjiang that are designed to empower farmer and herder households to better manage their grassland resources and improve the forage and feed production on arable lands improve the efficiency and quality focus of livestock production develop more efficient livestock marketing systems Approach The M E team has identified indicators that will enable a relatively quick and inexpensive assessment of the progress toward desired results At the Output level most indicators are quantitative and merely indicate whether or not expenditures have been made for items such as fencing sheep dipping stations and numbers of demonstrations or how many transactions were completed At the Outcome level we have attempted to determine if these expenditures are worthwhile and if the expenditure is resulting in an improvement of conditions or livelihoods The surveys are currently underway and data have yet to be analyzed so conclusions have yet to be drawn on the outcomes that have been achieved Project Description In the early implementation stage this project will assess the progress of a World Bank funded project supporting sustainable resource management initiatives in the globally significant areas of the Tian Shan and Altai Shan
