    that drives much of the company s donation related decision making With nine branch offices in Canada and one in California and a mission statement that incorporates such values as trust quality and financial stability Wawanesa also strives to be a good corporate citizen through partnerships with charitable groups like Habitat for Humanity Winnipeg Harvest and the United Way Wawanesa is sort of like a sleeping giant in that it very quietly goes about its business says Bass But it s a very large company which consequently provides a lot of value to its customers Wawanesa s partnership with Red River College dates back to 1997 when the company made its first general donation In 2004 the company donated to RRC s Exchange District campus and in the years since has supported both the Heavy Equipment Transformation Centre HETC and the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute With the HETC initiative we were convinced there was a need for a larger program to prepare more students for the workforce says Bass With the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute and this is over and above helping the College advance and become a better institution we liked the aspect of revitalizing the downtown The Roblin Centrte has done such a great job with that and when we saw the plans for the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute it just made so much sense that this was going to bring more people downtown what with the students staying there in the residence which will have a snowball effect on our community Even more good news for RRC students Recently Wawanesa agreed to support scholarships at RRC for the next five years And Bass predicts the relationship between Wawanesa and the College will continue even further into the future I see it developing flourishing and remaining very strong he says The College is a great part of our community we re strong supporters and we want to be part of the College s success For more information on Wawanesa Insurance click www wawanesa com The Winnipeg Foundation has a long history of working closely with donors agencies and other funders to proactively address changing community needs In 2011 The Winnipeg Foundation made 22 1 million in grants to almost 800 charitable organizations During the Foundation s more than nine decade history it has distributed close to 300 million back to the community including 500 000 toward the re opening of the Union Bank Tower as the Paterson GlobalFoods Institute The Winnipeg Foundation has invested heavily in Winnipeg s downtown supporting projects such as the revitalization of Central Park Old Market Square and the upcoming African Community Centre The Paterson GlobalFoods Institute is another example of the positive changes coming to our downtown and is a project we are proud to support said Winnipeg Foundation CEO Richard Frost Established in 1921 just 17 years after the Union Bank Tower was built The Winnipeg Foundation is the first community foundation in Canada Today there are 48 community foundations in Manitoba and more than
