  • Ballet Master | Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal
    his dance studies at the École Nationale de l Opéra de Paris He was also an exchange student at the Royal Ballet School in London and took advanced training with Tanz Forum in Cologne At age 15 he became a member of the Ballet de l Opéra National de Paris directed at the time by Rudolf Nureyev who gave him his first roles as a soloist He further advanced his technique by studying with Attilio Labis and under his direction danced several duos including great classics such as Don Quixote Giselle and The Sleeping Beauty He left the Opéra de Paris at age 19 to take up a position as a soloist with the Basler Ballett in Switzerland which was the start of his international career Appointed principal dancer with the Ballet National de Marseille Roland Petit he went on to work with the Ballet National de Nancy Bonn Oper am Rhein Het National Ballet of Amsterdam Carolina Ballet and the dance company Commun Instant created by the star dancer and choreographer Jean Pierre Aviotte He has been involved in the company s development since 2001 Over the years he has also worked with great choreographers such as Béjart Forsythe

    Kchessinska She also obtained a degree in philosophy before leaving for the United States She danced for three years with the Washington Concert Ballet then moved to Montreal in 1946 where she joined Ludmilla Chiriaeff s company now Les Grands Ballets Canadien de Montréal Her dancing career however was interrupted by an injury After Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal was formed in 1972 she served as its Artistic Director until 1992 Her involvement with the company continues to this day Eva Von Gencsy Born in Hungary Eva Von Gencsy began her classical dance training at the Russian Academy in Budapest She then became a soloist for the Landestheater in Salzburg In 1948 she emigrated to Canada where she danced with the Winnipeg Ballet later Royal Winnipeg Ballet and Les Ballets Chiriaeff now known as Les Grands Ballets Canadien de Montréal Her interest in jazz dance led her to combine this form with classical dance creating a fusion that would be the trademark of Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal for several years She created several choreographies for BJM which she left in 1979 to devote herself to teaching She died on April 11 2013 after a rich life full of passion for dance an art form she loved dearly A month after her passing BJM created the Eva von Gencsy Scholarship as a tribute to this co founder of the company The scholarship provides training and professional support for emerging young dancers It consists of a one year training program and apprenticeship with the company for a talented young Quebec dancer Eddy Toussaint Born in Haiti Eddy Toussaint studied ballet with Lavinia Williams before moving to Montreal with his family in 1957 There he continued his studies and obtained two Bachelor degrees one in teaching and the other in physical education
