    like when you re trying to remember someone When you can t come up with a name you say you know that guy In the case of Winnipeg group Those Guys once they realized they were all into singing a cappella they kept the name and ran with it Group members Dexter Barcellano Matthew Baron Ben Campbell James Campbell Mike Engstrom Derek Leenhouts Simon Miron and Bernie Pastorin formed their group one afternoon in 2009 Blog Back 40 Festival musician finds inspiration in lakes and pines The Back 40 Festival in Morden marks the launch of festival season in Manitoba The festival is held the first Sunday in June in the Morden Park Bowl Some of this year s headliners include The Brothers Landreth Emma Cloney Jenny Berkel Red Moon Road JP LePage Band and Jake Chenier for the younger set Also on the bill is local Morden duo Lakes and Pines SCENE quizzed Patrick Simoens about the band s connection to the great outdoors Filmmaker Deco Dawson doesn t have time to watch movies If Winnipeg filmmaker Deco Dawson keeps all his awards in a cabinet he s probably shopping for a bigger one Dawson recently won the Manitoba Film Hothouse Award a prize designed to recognize local directing talent In addition to a cash award part of the prize includes a public screening of the filmmaker s work FictionKNITstas pairs women writers with knitters Looking for an innovative way to showcase Canadian women writers Why not pair them up with Canadian women knitters That s what Canada s independent publishers have done Every year they organize a national book tour called FICTIONistas This year they have paired each author up with a knitter So during the tour each author models a handknit article of clothing created by her knitter and designed to reflect the book The Winnipeg event for FictionKNITstas takes place on Friday May 31 7 p m at McNally Robinson Booksellers St Norbert Farmers Market opens 25th season It was Saturday July 16 1988 and eight producers including a toy maker lay their wares on tables parked on a barren lot in St Norbert The small group banded together to sell locally grown produce Helen Eidse was one of them Back then business wasn t exactly booming but the strawberry grower knew she was a part of something special The St Norbert Farmers Market opens Saturday June 1 Award winning comedy Less Than Kind airing its final season Less Than Kind airing its final season The award winning comedy Less Than Kind is ending its run after a fourth and final season Set and shot in Winnipeg it follows the life of teenager Sheldon Blecher Jesse Camacho as he grows up in a dysfunctional Jewish family Veteran performer Maury Chaykin played Sam Blecher the patriarch of the family and the show faced a very real challenge following the actor s death in 2010 The fourth and final season of Less Than Kind premieres June 2 on
