    Committee on National Security and Defence 24 March On March 24 2014 Brother Jean Pierre Fortin National President appeared before the Senate Standing Committee on National Security and Defence Participation in the 2014 National Convention 18 March We are fast approaching our Seventeenth National Convention The National Convention which is the supreme governing body of our Union is held once every three years and provides an opportunity for all CIU members to become involved in the operation and future of their Union New FB contract signed 18 March New Agreement is Now in Effect Today we signed our new agreement with Treasury Board As a result the tentative agreement ratified in mid December is now in effect Convention Call CIU s 17th National Convention 13 March The 2014 National Convention of the Customs and Immigration Union will be held October 3 4 and 5 2014 at the Ottawa Marriott Hotel 100 Kent Street Ottawa Ontario K1P 5R7 Confirmed date for the signing of the FB agreement 5 March This week our PSAC Negotiator received final confirmation from Treasury Board that the signing of the FB agreement will take place on March 17th at 11 00 a m in Ottawa PA TC and EB groups served notice to bargain by Treasury Board 3 March One week after the election of PSAC s Treasury Board bargaining teams the union was served with a notice to bargain for the PA TC and EB bargaining units Grievance on First Aid Allowance 24 February The Customs and Immigration Union CIU recommends that members grieve the Canada Border Services Agency CBSA decision to limit the payment of the National Joint Council NJC First Aid Allowance CIU is advocating that members who meet the eligibility criteria grieve CIU officers from across Canada gear up for next contract

    Appeal has today unanimously upheld the groundbreaking decision of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal The decision found the Canada Border Services Agency CBSA discriminated against PSAC member Fiona Johnstone by failing to accommodate her family obligations Any changes in sick leave must be negotiated 2 May Recently CBSA sent an email notice to employees at CBSA promoting a Workplace Wellness and Productivity Strategy for federal government employees This notice promoted a new employer strategy for managing sick leave and long term disability across the federal public service but it failed to mention one very important fact this new strategy has not been CIU PSAC s response letter to CBSA s communication on arming 25 April The following letter in response to CBSA s communication on arming was sent to CBSA s Vice President on April 22 2014 by PSAC s Legal Counsel Collective Bargaining Branch PSAC to Take CBSA before Labour Board and Human Rights Commission over Arming Communications 16 April Union also filing suit in Federal Court over right to strike Over the last several weeks CBSA has been attempting to undermine the legal rights of CIU PSAC members in the FB bargaining unit It is our position that CBSA s communications concerning the arming of officers misinformed employees of their rights under both our contract and CIU PSAC Taking Action in Response to CBSA Communication on Arming 14 April Policy grievances to be filed legal counsel being consulted Yesterday CBSA put out a statement to union members concerning the arming initiative The statement included information that is misleading and inaccurate CIU PSAC Statement on Employer Arming Communication 11 April This afternoon CBSA put out a statement to union members concerning the arming initiative We believe the content of the communication to be both inaccurate and misleading Brother Gaston

    Board Tentative FB Agreement Reached with Treasury Board 22 October After two years and eight months of negotiations four final offers petition drives picketing a final offer forced vote thrown out by court challenge the filing of unfair labour practice complaints and a final round the clock 28 hour bargaining session our Bargaining Team reached an agreement with Treasury Board CBSA at 11 00 am the morning of Tuesday October Parties to return to the FB bargaining table on Monday 17 October FB workers assist Bargaining Team in getting their message across on October 10th Day of Action Last week s bargaining session ended with CBSA Treasury Board taking the position that workers in the FB bargaining unit deserve less than what has been agreed to for other federal law enforcement agency employees The following day members in locations Two Days of Contract Talks No Contract Today is our Day of Action 10 October WHY NOT US Bargaining Team spends two days round the clock in meetings with management only to be told at 5 am Thursday that we deserve less For two and a half years we have gone without a new contract During that time Treasury Board has negotiated with and reached settlements with all other Treasury FB Contract Talks to Resume Next Week 2 October Treasury Board CBSA prepared to reconvene with our Bargaining Team in Ottawa For months our Negotiating Team has indicated that we are ready to negotiate We reiterated this again after the Government s forced vote was thrown out by the federal court last month We have also indicated that we seek a fair contract comparable to what FB Day of Action October 10th 17 September We deserve a fair contract Now Over the last several months we have been subjected to ultimatums
