    December 19th members of the PSAC Customs and Immigration Union CIU Local 19 conducted a quick food drive in support of the Inn of the Good Shepherd Both on duty and off duty members attended with donations In addition bargaining team member Lauren Baert was in attendance to answer any questions in relation FB team raises health and safety issues in bargaining 16 January This past week January 12 through 15 our FB bargaining team met with Treasury Board CBSA representatives to continue talks for a new collective agreement In negotiations our team made a number of proposals geared towards making CBSA a much better place to work PA bargaining team puts forward proposals for a healthy workplace 16 January The PA bargaining team met with Treasury Board from January 13 15 to put forward a number of proposals to advance PSAC s vision for a healthy workplace Our National President visits the Alberta Branch 2 December On November 26 and 27 CIU National President Jean Pierre Fortin and newly elected Alberta Branch President Dave Degenstein met with Border Services Officers in Edmonton and Calgary to discuss employment contracts and labour management relations FB members send out a clear message to the Canadian public 18 November FB members are wearing badges in support of a fair contract Our message to CBSA and the government is clear PSAC CIU members in the FB bargaining unit keep our communities safe and deserve to be treated with respect The following are the different messages on the badges I find missing children with or without PA team defends sick leave and other workplace rights 12 September The PA bargaining team met with our Treasury Board counterparts for three days during the week of September 8 2014 The government presented the same proposal to gut

    Board CBSA have resolved the Unfair Labour Practice Complaint that was filed on May 12 2014 in response to the erroneous information Interim Memorandum of Agreement concerning arming and MMPI extended 3 September On Friday August 29th legal counsel for CIU PSAC signed an agreement with Treasury Board to extend the Memorandum of Agreement MOA concerning CBSA s arming Questions and Answers document posted on Atlas CIU Obtains Interim Relief in the wake of CBSA s communications on arming 6 August CIU National President Jean Pierre Fortin and CIU Labour Relations Officer Laurel Randle represented by Chantal Homier Nehmé PSAC Legal Officer and Andrew Raven of Raven Law participated in three days of mediation with respect to the Unfair Labour Practices complaint CIU PSAC filed against TB CBSA The complaint was filed in May shortly after the employer issued Confirmation CIU leadership and PSAC legal counsel meet with CBSA 13 May Over the last several weeks CBSA has been attempting to undermine the legal rights of CIU PSAC members in the FB bargaining unit It is our position that CBSA s communications concerning the arming of officers misinformed employees of their rights under both our contract and federal law CIU PSAC s response letter to CBSA s communication on arming 25 April The following letter in response to CBSA s communication on arming was sent to CBSA s Vice President on April 22 2014 by PSAC s Legal Counsel Collective Bargaining Branch PSAC to Take CBSA before Labour Board and Human Rights Commission over Arming Communications 16 April Union also filing suit in Federal Court over right to strike Over the last several weeks CBSA has been attempting to undermine the legal rights of CIU PSAC members in the FB bargaining unit It is our position that CBSA s communications

  • FB Group Calls for Pension Commitment in Bargaining | Customs and Immigration Union
    employment standards as other law enforcement workers in Canada and we enforce dozens of laws and international trade agreements Yet we do not have access to a retirement regime that reflects the work that we do Pension commitment While pension modification is not subject to collective bargaining under the law we reiterated our demand in bargaining this week to get a written commitment from CBSA and Treasury Board that they will support an early retirement regime consistent with what is in place for other federal law enforcement personnel PSAC National President Robyn Benson has placed the need for pension reform for PSAC represented CBSA employees and National Defence firefighters on the agenda for the Public Service Pension Advisory Committee CIU National President Jean Pierre Fortin has also raised the issue directly with Minister Blaney We will continue to push this initiative at all levels Other improvements This week we tabled our proposal to enhance legal indemnification rights for FB workers ensuring that union members would be legally protected in the event that members of the public take legal action against an employee for performing their duties Given our recent experiences we told CBSA that we do not trust CBSA management and better protections are required We also discussed our proposal for new protections for officers getting H ed on designated paid holidays our proposal to improve access to telework for non uniformed officers CBSA s roll out of a new system for uniform allotment issues related to inland enforcement Progress made on Mental Health front The PSAC successfully reached a Memorandum of Understanding MOU this session with Treasury Board concerning a joint task force do address mental health in the workplace For more information on the MOU visit http psacunion ca psac achieves agreement treasury board mental We are meeting
