  • Jays go to bat for Annual Slo-pitch Tournament
    weekend The survival of this long running tournament is the due to volunteer dedication says Mayor Ron Piche Landon Corri Duplessis key volunteer organizers of the tournament recently gave notice that they were ready to pass on the torch Fortunately for the community the Jays Men s Ball Team have stepped up to bat to maintain the tradition of the three day event The tournament sets a 40 team maximum and historically has reached team capacity most years Not only does this tournament serve as a wonderful recreation opportunity it provides an important boost to our local business community with the attraction of teams from all over Northern Ontario says Cheryl Kennelly Community Economic Development Officer The tournament has also served as a robust fundraising opportunity for community organizations managing food and refreshments The Town of Espanola is thankful to Landon Corri Duplessis and their core team of organizers for their dedication to the tournament for the past 8 years and to the Jays for carrying the tradition Volunteers champion the many services events leagues and tournaments that add value to the quality of life in our community says Piche Volunteers will be celebrated on June 14th at the Espanola
