    Tour Sunday 30 October 2011 22 46 Written by Administrator SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3rd 11am to 4pm Planning to renovate or install a new kitchen or just wanting to while away a fall afternoon Have we got an event for you The Garden Club of Vancouver is usually all about plants and gardens but their second favourite activity is cooking using beautiful fresh ingredients from the bounty harvested every autumn throughout the Lower Mainland Since we surmise that gardens and kitchens are a natural mix proceeds from the Fall Kitchen Tour will benefit a host of civic projects in this the Club s 50 th year A very limited number of participants 250 in all will be allowed entrée into six noteworthy and interesting kitchens of all shapes styles and sizes These kitchens will inspire the planner in all of us those about to embark on a renovation those who delight in the curious and those of us who can never get enough of the twists and turns of design old or new There will be tasty treats and surprises along the way and information on appliances fixtures paint colours kitchen designers recipes etc to make the tour a November highlight Pictures are of PREVIOUSLY visited kitchens This year s will be equally special from Tiny to Large Mansion to Coach House Tickets 50 Send your cheque payable to Garden Club of Vancouver Along with a self addressed stamped envelope to Fall Kitchen Tour 6271 MacKenzie Street Vancouver BC V6N 1H4 Tickets will also be available by cash or cheque after October 18 at Quince Fine Florals 4870 MacKenzie Street 10 am 6pm closed Sunday and Monday Your tickets and list of Fall Kitchen Tour addresses will be returned to you by mail Since we are limiting the number of tickets

    Club In addition large baskets are decorated and donated to 20 or so nursing homes in and around Vancouver As well as the holiday baskets each member of the Garden Club of Vancouver is also responsible once a year to provide a flower arrangement or plant to various nursing homes so each home receives a donation each month Events Meals on Wheels Three times a year at Easter Thanksgiving and

  • Recipes from the Kitchen Tour
    in an electric mixer Add the eggs and vanilla mixing well Add the flour baking powder and salt Mix into a batter until just combined Press the dough evenly into an ungreased parchment lined so that the paper goes up the sides a little 18 x 12 x 1 inch baking sheet making a slight edge around the outside It tends to be sticky sprinkle the dough and your hands with flour Bake for 15 minutes until the crust is set and just starting to brown Allow to cool Topping 2 cups butter 1 cup honey 3 cups light brown sugar packed 1 teaspoon grated lemon zest 1 teaspoon grated orange zest ¼ cup whipping cream 4 cups coarsely chopped pecans lightly toasted Combine the butter honey brown sugar and zests in a large heavy bottomed saucepan Cook over low heat until the butter is melted using a wooden spoon to stir Raise the heat and boil for 3 minutes Remove from heat and stir in the cream and pecans Pour over the crust and bake for 25 30 minutes until the filling is bubbly and set Remove from heat and allow to cool completely Cut into small even squares as they are rich Drizzle with chocolate or dust with icing sugar or dip one side of the square in melted chocolate for pizzazz Use a variety of nuts for a different taste Outrageous Brownies Made lovingly by a few volunteers from the Kerrisdale Community Meal the All Are Welcome weekly meal program served out of St Mary s Kerrisdale Anglican Church 1 pound unsalted butter 1 pound semisweet chocolate chips plus 12 ounces semisweet or white chocolate chips 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate 6 large eggs 3 tablespoons instant coffee granules or mocha mix 2 tablespoons pure vanilla extract 2 1 4 cups sugar 1 1 4 cups all purpose flour 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 teaspoon salt Directions Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Line a 12 x 18 x 1 inch baking sheet with parchment paper so that the paper goes up the sides of the pan Melt together the butter 1 pound of chocolate chips and the unsweetened chocolate in a medium bowl over simmering water Allow to cool slightly In a large bowl stir do not beat together the eggs coffee granules or mocha mix vanilla and sugar Stir the warm chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and allow to cool to room temperature Meanwhile in a medium bowl sift together 1 cup of flour the baking powder and salt Add to the cooled chocolate mixture Toss the 12 ounces of chocolate chips in a medium bowl with 1 4 cup of flour then add them to the chocolate batter Pour into the baking sheet Bake for 20 minutes then rap the baking sheet against the oven shelf to force the air to escape from between the pan and the brownie dough Bake for about 15 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean Do not over
