    Message Here at Gibbons School we continuously work on important virtue characteristics for our students and this year we have focused on resiliency There is much research to support the idea of raising resilient children teaching them the tools they need to respond to the challenges of childhood and to develop these skills into adulthood Resiliency is much more than simply dealing with conflict it focuses on the skills necessary to deal with many situations we all encounter These skills are Competence Confidence Connection Character Contribution and Coping This month we focused on Coping Learning to cope effectively with stress will help you be better prepared to overcome life s challenges Eva Scrimshaw Youth Recreation Events Coordinator with the Town of Gibbons gave our school a challenge last month The challenge was for students to share a time when they were able to brush off or cope with a negative situation I was very happy to see a number of excellent examples our students shared with some very empowering stories Our Edmonton Eskimo and Eva Olssen presentations certainly reinforced these concepts To remember to treat everyone with kindness and dignity is important for our Gibbons School family and I am

    those students who have exhibited academic achievement Academic recognition is determined as follows Principal s List JH 90 average in core subjects no failure in any other subjects ELEM an aggregate score of 20 19 or 18 from the four core subjects with a minimum grade of 3 or A in all courses Honours JH 80 89 average in core subjects no failures in any other subjects ELEM an aggregate score of 17 or 16 from the four core subjects with a minimum grade of 3 or A in all courses Merit JH 75 79 average in core subjects No failures in any other subjects ELEM an aggregate score of 15 from the four core subjects with a minimum grade of 3 or A in all courses High Five JH any student who increases their overall average by at least 5 in the November to March reporting period ELEM students who improve their overall core average or have demonstrated improved student learning skills as identified by the report card Sturgeon School Division provides an award to the student with the highest standing in core subjects at each grade level in Junior High and who has a pass mark in all
