    Canada s Investment Industry Faces Did You Know Logos Media Kit Social Media Policy Events Upcoming Events Webinars IIAC Investment Industry Hall of Fame IIAC Top Under 40 Award Take Our Kids to Work Day Compliance and Operations Symposium Small and Independent Dealers Symposium Cybersecurity Symposium Sponsorship Opportunities Hall of Fame Search IIAC Blog September 24 2014 IIAC on 2014 What s Happened and What s in Store Released this morning Ian Russell s latest Letter from the President is already generating a lot of attention In it Russell examines how Canada s investment dealers have fared so far in 2014 and what s in store for them through to the end of the year For the most part it s good news Highlights The first half of this year was marked by a solid rebound in industry wide revenue and profits Improved market and business conditions have enabled all industry groupings integrated firms retail boutiques and institutional boutiques to improve earnings performance Specific stats can be found on page 6 and 7 of the Letter Projections If the first half results are extrapolated over July December of this year industry wide revenue and operating profit will be up 16 and 32 respectively year over year The IIAC estimates operating profit at the large national integrated dealers will rise 27 year over year barring major geo political and economic shocks to the marketplace We also estimate operating profit at the institutional firms will rise 39 year over year while operating profit at retail firms will more than double compared to last year Of note assuming our projections for 2014 are correct operating profit at the integrated firms this year will exceed pre crash levels for two consecutive years However operating profit at the boutique firms even with the positive results
