  • Enterprise vendors must know how to triage before marketing to SMBs | IT Business
approach for companies that are addressing several distinct market segments each with their own and different needs But it is an effective one Known as triaging it is the process of separating your prospects right at the front door of your Web site based on their specific pain or other characteristics and then showing them nothing further that is not completely relevant to those circumstances What you do on your Web site can be extended to the balance of your marketing activities different campaigns and content appealing to each of the three target market segments can be created with landing and subsequent pages that talk exclusively to that segment I am never an advocate of any company and especially not young ones spreading themselves too thinly by being too many things to too many people We all must stake our place in the competitive landscape even if it means deliberately foregoing some great looking opportunities But this is not a binary proposition and it doesn t mean that you can t create potent messaging for two or more segments or that you can t cater both to large enterprise grade customers and to smaller ones You just have to be careful to maintain good levels of messaging hygiene when speaking to one segment versus the other Post to Twitter Post to Facebook Share on LinkedIn Share on LinkedIn Comment on this article Share with Google More Articles Why a Toronto startup wants to reinvent online project management Apple diehards can t wait to get an iWatch on their wrists Managing Business Opinion Posts Sales and Marketing enterprise marketing Small and medium sized business targeted marketing VMware Web site About Francis Moran Francis Moran is principal of Francis Moran Associates a consultancy that provides business to business technology ventures with the strategic counsel required to make their innovations successful in a highly competitive marketplace Francis can be reached at Francis Francis Moran com Follow Follow FrancisMoran on Twitter What topic would you like to see covered in the next issue Read the Computing Canada articles you made happen Democratizing Business Continuity Agility and efficiency through virtual switching Sponsored by Microsoft Browse Articles Related Recent News Leadership Managing Business IT Administration Mobility Related 4K monitors future bright because people love pixels May 1st 2013 Dell measures 400 variables to gauge brand what do you do April 2nd 2013 Six ways you can market like a startup March 28th 2013 99designs launches tools for Pro users February 22nd 2013 Toronto social marketing firms merge after divine intervention February 6th 2013 Lenovo debuts January 16th 2013 Anti spam regulations published consultation opens January 4th 2013 Customer suggestion led to Verelo s last minute acquisition January 3rd 2013 Anti spam law adds exceptions delayed until 2014 December 20th 2012 Influitive announces 7 3 million funding round December 18th 2012 SanDisk offers 75 million to innovate flash memory December 14th 2012 Moms with iPhones become mobile market research agents for hire December 6th 2012 Recent Buytopia
