    growth and a renewed commitment to their public service careers They developed new skills and form new friendships And they got great satisfaction from successfully co facilitating learning events that create a space for dialogue among their peers If you are selected as a potential JLP facilitator you will attend a five day facilitation training session that provides you with a strong foundation of facilitation skills You will work jointly with union and employer representatives and you will experience an overview of the JLP program and learning materials With the exception of salary and overtime if applicable which are paid by your department all costs for this training including travel and accommodation if required will be paid by the JLP The upcoming Orientation Sessions are as follow October 20 24 Ontario and Nunavut Region Toronto November 3 7 Quebec Region Montreal December 8 12 National Capital Region Ottawa January 12 16 Prairies and Northwest Territories Winnipeg February 2 6 British Columbia and Yukon Region Vancouver For more information or to submit an application please contact the Regional Field Coordinators in your region Atlantic Region Welcomes New Facilitators to the Joint Learning Program From September 22 to 26 in Halifax the Atlantic Region hosted an orientation session on facilitation given by Rachel Besharah and Marcia Vergara Joint Learning Program JLP Program Officers Wanda Thomas and Angela Léger Field Regional Coordinators for the Atlantic Region welcomed 18 new facilitators Sarah Boulter Jo Ann Colepaugh Marc Diotte Marc Doucet Ronald Drake Carl Gannon RubyJean Hamel Hussell Alyson MacDonald Margaret MacDonald Rand MacKay Arthur MacKinnon Angus McKinnon Pamela Nicholas Ellen Pickett Mike Scott Monique Smalley Craig Smith and Christine Theriault The participants Joint Learning Program Journey at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Conventions The Joint Learning Program JLP had kiosks at several Public Service Alliance of Canada Component Conventions to greet facilitators and organizers and to promote its initiatives mainly the new Mental Health in the Workplace workshop through the Unions The Conventions were as follow Union of National Employees August 10 to 15 British Columbia and Yukon Region Union of Environment Workers Convention UEWC August 26 to 28 Atlantic Region Some UEWC delegates observers and organizers were greeted at the JLP kiosk by the Atlantic Regional Field Coordinators Angela Léger second from left and Wanda Thomas fourth from left Canada Employment and Immigration Union Convention CEIUC September 12 to 16 National Capital Region Government Services Union September 23 to 25 National Capital Region Customs and Immigration Union Convention October 3 to 5 National Capital Region Union of Veterans Affairs Employees Convention October 4 to 6 National Capital Region The Joint Learning Program at the National Joint Council Symposium The Joint Learning Program JLP participated in the National Joint Council NJC symposium which was held in Gatineau September 17 and 18 On the morning of the 17th the new JLP branding was unveiled during the opening meeting At the same time a workshop on the new JLP Mental Health in the Workplace material

  • The Joint Learning Program unveil its new identity - Joint Learning Program
    in the federal public service founded in 2001 is proud to unveil its new identity consisting of a new logo and a new tagline The new identity clearly express the refreshing and unique experience offered by the JLP to build a healthier more productive workplace The JLP proposes a modified logo intended to convey A Recognition of the past JLP s former identity relied heavily on the symbolism of the tree and seed The updated identity acknowledges this by maintaining the tree imagery but realized in a different way The burnt orange color is also an update on the predominantly orange coloring of the former identity Sophistication Both the clean lines of the graphic and the font are intended to be reflective the professionalism and sophistication of the Program its participants and partners Iconic The tree graphic is intended to be iconic and quickly recognizable Partnership The logo consists of an abstracted tree consisting of circles and lines all arranged in a way that symbolizes the coming together of all of the groups involved in the program It also symbolizes how each part effects the whole Learning and Growing Together is the tagline that has been developed for JLP The tagline is a short phrase that captures the Program s goals and objectives The new visual identity is coming into force today and is already appearing on a series of new publication and the website It will be used in any new material or in support of any new activity in the upcoming months The JLP is mandated to improve workplace relationships and deepen understanding of the respective roles and responsibilities of the union and the employer in the workplace The program offers seven different workshops each of which has been designed to achieve the goals of the JLP Each

    crafting dream catchers Yvan Thauvette National President and Debi Buell National Vice president of Union of Veterans s Affairs Employees visited the JLP to share Mrs Buell s Atlantic Voice Award The Atlantic Region of the PSAC presented the award to her in recognition of her stewardship leadership and mentorship Debi Buell is a JLP facilitator and signatory of the regional Memorandum of Understanding between JLP Veterans Affairs Canada and UVAE Yvan Thauvette and Debi Buell Prairies Region Public Service Alliance of Canada Triennial Convention Our Union Bringing Us Together was the theme for the Prairie Region Public Service Alliance of Canada Triennial Convention held from June 27 to 29 in Saskatoon Joint Learning Program JLP Regional Coordinators Carol Casey and Corrinne Mitchell took advantage of this opportunity to set up a JLP kiosk Many delegates stopped by to chat and receive information on the JLP Program and the workshops offered Carol Casey and Corrinne Mitchell at the JLP kiosk Joint Learning Program A Resource to Help You Create a Positive Work Environment On June 24 Joint Learning Program JLP Atlantic Regional Field Coordinators RFC Wanda Thomas and Angela Léger were invited by the Atlantic Region National Managers Community to make a presentation on the Mental Health in the Workplace workshop Over the last few years managers have been asking for increased awareness more support and better tools to help them deal with mental health issues in the workplace On June 9 the JLP launched its new Mental Health in the Workplace workshop and the Atlantic RFC answered all the questions about this new offering and how to bring it to the workplace Public Works and Government Services Canada Awards of Excellence a facilitator of the Joint Learning Program recognized On June 17 as part of the National Public Service Week the Public Works and Government Services Canada PWGSC Awards of Excellence was held It is the highest distinction awarded by the Department Presented annually since 2003 these awards are designed to recognize employees who alone or as a team go above and beyond and enhance the Department reputation embodying the core values of PWGSC respect integrity excellence and leadership The work of Edmond Maltais Labour Relations Senior Advisor in the Quebec region has been recognized on this occasion in the category sharing transfer of knowledges Mr Maltais is rated the award for his contribution in the field of labor relations Under the Joint Learning Program he facilitates among others the workshop on understanding the collective agreement He was also during more than two years member of the Executive of the Labour Relations Interdepartmental Committee which brings together federal departments professionals in labor relations of the region During his tenure he has shared in different ways his knowledges of issues and trends in labor relations Edmond Maltais left was presented with his award by the Regional Director General Richard Meroni 10 year Facilitation Recognition Prairies and Northwest Territories Corrinne Mitchell Regional Field Coordinator presented Alex Kozubal with his 10 year

    Catherine Gilbert and Denis Trottier JLP co directors thanked Brenda Frieday for her work at the national office since 2002 As Finance Officer Ms Frieday supports the members of the JLP community She was also recognized on December 4 as part of the Public Service Alliance of Canada s Founder s Day for her 30 years of service with the organization New Version of Union Management Consultation Kit The Joint Learning Program JLP is pleased to inform you that its Union Management Consultation kit has been updated The entire kit was reviewed streamlined and updated to reflect the most recent changes and topics of interest for consultation in the public service The new kit was used for the first time at a session in the British Columbia and Yukon Region on October 25 Renewal of Memorandum of Understanding with Correctional Service Canada The Joint Learning Program JLP recently renewed its agreement with Correctional Service Canada CSC and the Union of Solicitor General Employees The purpose of this agreement is to provide CSC employees with a positive healthy and respectful workplace The parties agreed to continue the delivery of the JLP s workshop on creating a harassment free workplace to all CSC employees and managers The agreement covers the 2013 14 fiscal year Strategic partnerships allow departments to benefit from JLP expertise and material in order to offer important training to many of their employees Strategic partnerships are still active today in the areas of employment equity workplace diversity union management consultation and harassment prevention and resolution For more information contact the regional coordinators for the JLP in your region British Columbia and Prairies Region Welcomes New Facilitators from Correctional Service Canada Joint Learning Program JLP recently gave an orientation session to 16 employees from Correctional Service Canada CSC British Columbia

    and Manon Bouchard of the Quebec Region Alex Roussakis and Linda Iezzi National Capital Region and Angela Léger and Wanda Thomas Atlantic Region Regional Field Coordinators welcomed 16 facilitators from different departments agencies and unions They are Denise Desloges Marie Hélène Brosseau Méliza Boucher Jean Pineault Murielle Saint Lot Louise Caron Chantal Bérubé Pierre Proulx Isabelle Bégin and Franck Philippe from the Quebec Region Andrew Barker Deirdre Brown Josée McSween and Isabelle Corriveau from the National Capital Region and Sophie Pitre Arseneault and Hélène Bégin from Atlantic Region The participants Celebrations of the 500th Workshop in the Quebec Region June 12 2013 was an important date for the Joint Learning Program s JLP Quebec Region as this was the day that the 500th workshop was delivered Quebec is the first region to reach this milestone and this achievement was celebrated on October 29 at a luncheon during the Facilitators Orientation Session in Montreal Regional Field Coordinators RFC Manon Bouchard and Carolle Lajoie invited participants of the orientation session facilitators from the Montreal area the organizers and facilitators of the 500th workshop Also in attendance were Magali Picard Regional Vice President Quebec Region Public Service Alliance of Canada and Martine Tremblay Acting Director General of the Federal Council of Quebec Ms Picard and Ms Tremblay took the opportunity to express the support of their organizations for the JLP Magali Picard and Martine Tremblay Other representatives that spoke in appreciation of partnerships with the JLP were Claude Duchesneau Regional Vice President Union of the Solicitor General Employees Marie Ève Charest Human Resources Manager Correctional Service of Canada CSC for the Memorandum of Understanding MOU with CSC and Ron Moran Vice president Customs and Immigration Union for the MOU with the Canada Border Services Agency CBSA RFCs took this opportunity to acknowledge the contributions of five individuals to the JLP Monique Bernier Audrey Concillio Jean Bonhomme Milford and Manon Bouchard received gifts of appreciation for their facilitation work with the JLP over the last 10 years Edmond Maltais who was absent will also receive an award for his contribution over the last decade From left to right Manon Bouchard Jean Bonhomme Milfort Audrey Concilio and Monique Bernier The facilitators of the 500th workshop were invited to cut the cake and to close the event highlighting this achievement The topic of the 500th workshop was Creating a Harassment Free Workplace and it was held in Lacolle Quebec The workshop was part of the MOU with the CBSA Facilitators were Benoît G Hébert Union and Gabriel Duteau Employer and the organizers were Diane Lacombe Union and Alexander Girard Employer Ron Moran Manon Bouchard Gabriel Duteau Benoît G Hébert and Carolle Lajoie Labour Management Consultation Kit Clinic in the British Columbia Yukon Region The British Columbia Yukon BC YT Region hosted a kit clinic for Joint Learning Program JLP facilitators from BC YT and the Prairie Regions on October 29 and 30 2013 in Richmond British Columbia The objective of the clinic was to familiarize facilitators
