    of the workshop The secondary focus was to validate the workshop framework The participants also received training offered by the Mental Health Commission of Canada Participants to the English Facilitators Pilot form March 18 to 20 Participants during a learning activity of the French Facilitators Pilot held from March 25 to 27 The next step before the launch will be the delivery of a three day clinic in each JLP region The purpose of the clinics is two folds To familiarize JLP facilitators with the new workshop kit and to support their readiness to deliver it on behalf of the JLP To equip facilitators to recognize the signs of the mental health problems distress and to understand the steps involved to initially support that individual This will be achieved by the delivery of the Mental health First Aid 12 hour training course The clinics will be held as follow in the National Capital on May 21 to 23 in Ontario Nunavut on May 27 to 29 in the Atlantic on June 3 to 5 in British Columbia Yukon on June 3 to 5 in the Prairies Northwest Territories on June 17 to 19 in Quebec on June 17 to 19 Public Service Alliance of Canada British Columbia Regional Convention The Joint Learning Program British Columbia and Yukon Region had a kiosk on April 25 and 26 at the occasion of the Public Service Alliance of Canada British Columbia Regional Convention Many facilitators including Michael Ballard Shawn Ewing Kelly Sidhu Kelly Megysi Jessica Kerek Carolyn McGillivray and Christine Walker stopped by to receive information about the upcoming Mental Health in the Workplace workshop A number of repeat organizers including Michele Wong and Alistair Crawford from Transport Canada Marcelo Lazaro from Department of National Defence and Nicole Jeffries from Service Canada to name a few also paid a visit to the kiosk Renewal of Memorandum of Understanding with Veterans Affairs Canada The Joint Learning Program JLP recently renewed its agreement with Veterans Affairs Canada VAC Atlantic Region and the Union of Veterans Affairs Employees The purpose of this agreement is to provide VAC employees with a positive healthy and respectful workplace The parties agreed to deliver 12 JLP s workshops on creating a harassment free workplace employment equity understanding the collective agreement duty to accommodate and respecting differences anti discrimination to VAC employees and managers The agreement covers the period of January 1 2014 to March 31 2016 Strategic partnerships allow departments to benefit from JLP expertise and material in order to offer important training to many of their employees Strategic partnerships are still active today in the areas of employment equity workplace diversity union management consultation and harassment prevention and resolution For more information contact the regional coordinators for the JLP in your region Asian Heritage Month May is Asian Heritage Month This acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada It also provides an opportunity for Canadians across the country to reflect on and

    and improving labour relations The JLP exists under a memorandum of understanding with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat that is included in the conventions collectives The renewal of the JLP therefore hinges on the upcoming round of collective bargaining 2 500 Joint Learning Program Workshops In January 2014 the Joint Learning Program JLP hit a milestone 15 months after delivering its 2 000th workshop in October 2012 it delivered its 2 500th Requests for workshops are on track It took 40 months to complete the first block of 1 000 and the second block was completed in 30 months between April 2010 and October 2012 If this trend continues the 3 000th workshop will be given in April 2015 Since it started the JLP has obtained the support of more than 1 500 facilitators who have given workshops to more than 45 000 participants in more than 100 union and management organizations The pace could even pick up with other unions joining the JLP the creation of a new workshop on mental health in the workplace and the increase in the number of memorandums of understanding MOUs Also nearly 33 000 public servants could at some point in the coming months receive an invitation to participate in a workshop on their workplace under one of the 11 MOUs with the JLP that are currently in effect Quebec Region Welcomes New Facilitators to the Joint Learning Program From February 10 to 14 in Montreal the Quebec Region hosted an orientation session on facilitation given by Marcia Vergara Joint Learning Program JLP Program Officer and Monique Bernier from Service Canada A total of 16 facilitators including those who fall under memorandums of understanding that the JLP has with Service Canada and the Canada Employment and Immigration Union with the Canadian Space Agency and the Natural Resources Union and with the Canada Border Services Agency and the Customs and Immigration Union Carolle Lajoie and Manon Bouchard regional coordinators for the Quebec Region welcomed Jean Philippe Paquet Mathieu Landry Manon Poirier Sandra Lemaire René Huacuja Fabienne Jean François Paloma Carrera Guylaine Soucy Paola Cavagna Suzie Labrosse Carmelo Fortunato Mathieu Champagne Danielle Poulin Sophie Laflamme Cynthia Ramacieri and Véronique Bédard Clinic on the Labour Management Consultation Kit The National Capital Region of the Joint Learning Program JLP held a clinic on the Union Management Consultation kit on February 12 and 13 A total of 18 facilitators from the Ontario Quebec and National Capital regions participated Over the course of the two days the facilitators explored the learning activities in the kit developed facilitation techniques and acquired the tools they need to deliver the workshop Inside the clinic Upcoming Activities Here are our upcoming activities for the month of March Three pilot sessions of Mental Health in the Workplace workshop in February and March 2014 Mental Health in the Workplace workshop clinic National Capital Region May 21 to 23 2014 Ottawa Mental Health in the Workplace workshop clinic Ontario Eastern Arctic Region May 27 to

    in Log in Français Home News News Archives 2013 March 19 2013 March 19 2013 March 19 2013 International Day of La Francophonie Since 1990 we celebrate the International Day of La Francophonie on March 20th around the world We do this to recall the day in 1970 when the treaty creating the first intergovernmental body of the Francophonie was signed in Niamey Niger This March 20th anniversary is an opportunity for us each year to celebrate our attachment to the French language and the rich and diverse Francophone culture We also celebrate the values of peace democracy and respect for human rights These are all elements that unite the members of the International Organization of La Francophonie March 21 International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination Every year on March 21st the world commemorates the anniversary of the 1960 Sharpville massacre which saw dozens of peaceful demonstrators shot by police in apartheid South Africa for protesting racially discriminatory laws March 21 is a time to remember those who fought against racism and for equality and human rights It is also a time to renew our commitment to continuing the struggle against racism Home About Us Welcome Objectives Guidelines

    increased demand for workshops the National Capital Region will have another orientation session in 2013 It will be held in French form April 15 to 19 at the Ramada Plaza Le Manoir hotel in Gatineau When you become a JLP facilitator you join a community of more than 1 500 union and employer facilitators across Canada who have participated in the JLP since 2002 JLP facilitators work in many different kinds of jobs and represent almost all federal government departments Some of them hold union positions some of them are managers and executives and all of them are connected by a common interest in working collaboratively to inspire positive change in their workplace If you are intrested in becoming a JLP facilitator please fill the online application If you are considerd as a potential JLP facilitator the Regional Field Coordinators will contact you for an interview All potential facilitators must participate in a five day facilitator orientation session When JLP organizes an orientation session it tries to ensure a balance of union and employer participants It also considers equity representation location workshop interests suitability availability and manager support in determining whether to invite you to a particular orientation session Through their involvement with the JLP many facilitators tell that they experience personal growth and a renewed commitment to their public service careers They develop new skills and form new friendships And they get great satisfaction from successfully co facilitating learning events that create a space for dialogue among their peers Please contact either Linda Iezzi 613 560 2984 or Alex Roussakis 613 560 4358 the Regional Field Coordinators for the NCR if you have any questions Orientation Session in Gatineau New Facilitators Ontario and National Capital Regions recently welcomed 17 new facilitators Karen Alexander Romeo Jackson Linda Iezzi and Alex Roussakis Regional Field Coordinators are welcoming new facilitators Carmen Barcena Diane Belanger Vena Shandy Lynn Briggs Stacey Charron Emilie Dionne Kathy Sandra Dorlette Matt Gagner Marc Imbeault Élise Lemoine Philip Lillies Michael O Donnell Tracy Perkins Sean Reid Yvette Salkey Missy Taylor Angela Vanikiotis and Andy Williams The facilitators Orientation Session was held in Gatineau from February 18 to 22 The session was facilitated by Rachel Besharah and Angela Léger The participants Joint Learning Program Promotion at the Service Canada Team Leader Forum for the Western Canada and Territories Region The JLP was invited to participate in a full day café style promotion at the Team Leader Forum in Surrey on February 13 2013 Three hundred Service Canada Team Leaders had an opportunity to learn about how the JLP can assist in their work places and what the program has to offer Skills Development Clinic in the British Columbia and Yukon Region The British Columbia and Yukon Region hosted a skills development clinic for JLP Facilitators on February 13 and 14 2013 in Richmond British Columbia The objectives of the session were to develop new competencies hone already acquired skills and share best practices Both days were packed with learning
