    1 at the Public Service Alliance of Canada head office This event allowed organizers and facilitators to network together in an informal setting The Co Directors were present at the event and addressed the group on the importance and benefits of the Joint Learning Program JLP in the workplace The Regional Field Coordinators had an opportunity to thank everyone for all their efforts in making the program a success in the NCR and took this time to recognize Zarina Khan one of the NCR JLP facilitator who has delivered over 10 workshops and is an ambassador of the Program Two JLP facilitators Shelley Adams and Zarina Khan made a presentation on the importance of preparation before a workshop and shared best practices and lessons learned with the participants Zarina Khan receives from the Regional Field Coordinators Alex Roussakis on the left and Linda Iezzi on the right Joint Learning Program Atlantic Participates in National Managers Community Regional Professional Development Event On February 6 and 7 2013 Joint Learning Program JLP Atlantic participated in the Marketplace at the New Brunswick National Managers Community Regional Professional Development held in Fredericton New Brunswick The Regional Field Coordinators thank Nancy Akerley JLP Facilitator who assisted in promoting the JLP at this event During the event JLP Atlantic welcomed visits from managers youth network representatives JLP facilitators organizers and participants of JLP workshops who visited the kiosk to learn about the Program and have their passports stamped Black History Month Every year Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of black Canadians past and present Canadians take this time to celebrate the many achievements and contributions of black Canadians who throughout history have done so much to make Canada the culturally diverse compassionate and prosperous nation

    News News Archives 2013 January 22 2013 January 22 2013 January 22 2013 Networking Breakfast hosted by the Joint Learning Program National Capital Region Linda Iezzi and Alex Roussakis the Joint Learning Program JLP National Capital Region NCR Field Coordinators would like to invite you to a breakfast which will be held on February 1 2013 at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Building located at 233 Gilmour Street in Ottawa in the J K Wylie boardroom The purpose of the event is to meet each other re establish contact and have a conversation as to how we can better promote the Joint Learning Program in the NCR The event will start at 8 30 a m and will end at 10 30 a m If you plan to attend please confirm your presence no later than January 25 2013 to Linda Iezzi at iezzil psac afpc com or Alex Roussakis at roussaa psac afpc com Updates to the Understanding the Collective Agreement and the Duty to Accommodate Building an Inclusive Workplace kits There are minor updates corrections to the Understanding the Collective Agreement kit and the Duty to Accommodate Building an Inclusive Workplace kit They include updating the Background in the kit introduction to include the Joint Learning Program JLP recent milestone of delivering over 2 000 workshops since 2007 updating the Target Audience in the kit introduction to reflect that JLP workshops are available to all union members and their corresponding supervisors and managers within the Core Public Administration correcting references to Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat TBS policies Policies are developed by Treasury Board of Canada and not by TBS so it was necessary to make this correction The minor changes that were made to these two kits will have no impact on the workshop delivery Home

    750 public service executives registered at the Symposium Comments were positive with visitors some of who were learning about the JLP for the first time Joint Learning present at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Atlantic School The Joint Learning Program was present at the Public Service Alliance of Canada Atlantic School that took place May 23rd to 27th at St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish Nova Scotia The Atlantic School was a learning event for activists stewards and others who represent members in the workplace Caroline Morais Gregan Union of Solicitor General Employees on the left is a facilitator with the Joint Learning Program Darlene Tait Union of National Employee on the right said that she was interested in becoming a JLP facilitator Atlantic Region hosts an Appreciation Event On May 16th 2012 the Joint Learning Program JLP Atlantic region hosted an appreciation event in Halifax Nova Scotia to thank JLP facilitators workshop organizers and strategic partners Denis Trottier and Mark Pecek JLP Co directors participated in this event and took the opportunity to recognize six JLP facilitators for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the JLP They are as follows Karen Beamish has facilitated over 30 JLP workshops since January 2007 She also provided support to facilitators from Parks Canada as they prepared to deliver Union Management Consultation workshops as part of a joint learning program pilot Stéphane Breau has facilitated over 20 JLP workshops since February 2007 François Cyr has facilitated over 20 JLP workshops since April 2008 Jo Anne Gallen has facilitated over 40 JLP workshops since February 2007 Dwana Mbamalu has facilitated over 20 JLP workshops since January 2007 René Robichaud was recognized for his role in expanding the borders of the JLP by initiating a partnership between the JLP and Labour Canada to pilot the delivery certain sections of JLP s Respecting Differences Anti Discrimination workshops in the Atlantic Region to clients in the private sector Participants with the co directors and the regional field coordinators Joint Learning Program at National Managers Community Professional Development Forum 2012 The Joint Learning Program JLP was an exhibitor at the National Professional Development Forum at the Winnipeg Convention Centre on May 7th to 9 th 2012 The theme of the forum was The Leadership Journey Managing in a New Era and focused on managing in challenging times Denis Trottier JLP Co director Employer Carol Casey Union and Judy Freeman Employer JLP Regional Field Coordinators Prairies and Northwest Territories Region were on site to promote the JLP workshops as an additional tool to provide joint learning events and to improve labour relations in the Public Service particularly during times of change Elizabeth Dziedzk Department of National Defence and Linda Oremuch Public Works and Government Services Canada were the prize winners of the JLP daily prize draw Judy Freeman on the left and Carol Casey greet visitors The outgoing president of the Public Service Alliance of Canada praises the Joint Learning Program John Gordon who completed his last term

    to the attendees Duty to Accommodate Workshop Clinic in the Quebec Region The clinic on the Duty to Accommodate DTA workshop in the Quebec Region was delivered in Montreal to 15 facilitators on March 28 and 29 The two day session enabled participants to facilitate core learning activities and experience the benefits of this kit Facilitators in the region had the opportunities to analyze the kit and to network with colleagues to share ideas about learning activities as well as tips and tools for facilitation The participants were Denis Langevin Colyn Tucker Steele Yolande Dostie Edmond Maltais Jenny Pelletier Stéphane Lemieux Éric St Laurent Benjamin Joseph Audrey Concilio Isabelle Paradis Danielle Dubuc Anouchka Chagnon Toufic El Daher Lise Roy and Danielle Hétu The Participants in the Quebec clinic The session was facilitated by Marcia Vergara Employer Citizenship and Immigration Canada and Lynda Fortier Union Service Canada Carolle Lajoie Regional Field Coordinator Employer on the right was on site to open the clinic and to celebrate Lynda Fortier s center retirement Marcia Vergara also appears in the picture The first Duty to Accommodate workshop delivered in the Atlantic Region The Atlantic Region had the honour of hosting the first ever Joint Learning Program Duty to Accommodate DTA workshop in the country The Royal Canadian Mounted Police J Division was the host of this workshop in Fredericton on March 27 and 28 Participant feedback with respect to the DTA workshop included provided awareness on duty to accommodate case law and discussions around scenarios were most useful benefits to the workplace include tools to proceed with better understanding of process of duty to accommodate gained a better understanding of roles for employer manager Human Resources employee and union facilitators were well prepared and dynamic The co organizers were Joel Kerstens and Greg Lawlor and Mike Hamper and Lorraine Voisine were the facilitators From left to right Greg Lawlor Mike Hamper Lorraine Voisine and Joel Kerstens Duty to Accommodate Workshop Clinic in the National Capital Region The Joint Learning Program s National Capital Region recently held its Duty to Accommodate workshop clinic on March 19 and 22 in Gatineau The clinic was bilingual with simultaneous translation The formula allowed facilitators to work together A total of 17 facilitators from the region participated in the clinic They were Ronald Thériault Alexandre David Brisebois Anne Marie Boutin Louise Blouin Roowdy Duré Jean Pierre de Beaumont Marie Josée Caron Ghyslaine Hamel Nancy Martineau Tom Fitzpatrick Jo Anne McCullough Bruce Roy Carisa Hector St Clair Currie Lina Boucher Fred Martin and Zarina Khan The facilitators were Linda Iezzi and Alex Roussakis Regional Field Coordinators The first workshop will be held in Cornwall on May 3 and 4 The host will be Service Canada Joint Learning Program Atlantic Participates in Diversity and Mental Health Fair The Human Resource and Diversity Committees of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federal Council invited Joint Learning Program JLP to participate in their Diversity and Mental Health Fair held in St John s Newfoundland on

    Learning Program announces the release of three new publications The first one is called The Workshops which is a comprehensive description of the JLP workshops The second one is called Change Through Joint Learning which is a brief overview of the JLP The last on is Becoming a Facilitator which is a tool to promote facilitation If you would like to receive a copy of any of these publications please contact the JLP by phone at 613 560 2595 or by email at jlp pam psac afpc com Duty to Accommodate Clinic in British Columbia A Facilitators Skills Clinic for the new Duty To Accommodate DTA kit was delivered to 20 facilitators FACS in the British Columbia BC Yukon YT region over February 29 and March 1 2012 The two day clinic provided facilitators opportunities to facilitate core learning activities and to experience the kit from both a participant point of view BC YT FACs enjoyed parsing the kit and networking with one another sharing ideas for learning activities delivery as well as tricks and tools of the trade BC YT facilitators in attendance at the Clinic in Richmond BC wished Sherry Boudreau Regional Field Coordinator the best in her future endeavours Ms Boudreau will leave the Joint Learning Program JLP on March 31 2012 Ms Boudreau on the right receives a cake from her colleague in the BC YT JLP Region Karla Backer Rendez vous de la Francophonie Our annual opportunity to celebrate and promote the French language and culture across Canada has come Les Rendez vous de la Francophonie which will take place from March 9 to 25 of this year are part of the events surrounding the Journée internationale de la Francophonie available only in French March 20 which is organized every year around the world to

    Louise Kraus Darcey Ladan Jaclyn Lee Josette Labossière Di Nella David Mills Veronica Mok La Vona Parker Lisa Richards Kelly Sefton Canadian Border Services Agency Memorandum of Understanding Karen Sokol Quentin Stewart and Christine Walker British Columbia Yukon Region are the new facilitators The Participants February is Black History Month It is a time for Canadians to reflect on the many experiences of Black Canadians in this country and deepen their understanding of the integral role they have played in Canadian history Canadians are invited to participate in Black History Month festivities and events that honour the legacy of Black Canadians and the events that have shaped Black history in Canada A week in February was originaly designated to recognize black people s contributions in the United States in 1926 During the early 1970s the week became known as Black History Week It was expanded into Black History Month in 1976 In December 1995 the House of Commons officially recognized February as Black History Month following a motion introduced by the first black woman elected to Parliament in Canada the Honourable Jean Augustine The motion was carried unanimously by the House of Commons In February 2008 Senator Donald Oliver the first black man appointed to the Senate introduced a motion to officially recognize February as Black History Month It received unanimous approval and was adopted on March 4 2008 A brief overview of the contributions of some prominent black Canadians can be found on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada s website New Employee to the Joint Learning Program The Joint Learning Program JLP is pleased to announce the arrival of a new member to its team Joanna Nugent joined the JLP on January 27 as the new Clerk Receptionist and will be with the JLP for the next six months

    for delivery in the workplaces Clinics will be held in each of the six regions over February and March to support JLP Facilitators in developing the skills to deliver this topic The purpose of the workshop is to familiarize employees and managers with the meaning of duty to accommodate the legal framework as well as the benefits of inclusive workplaces for all employees working in the public service The workshop has been designed to develop a common understanding of what the roles and responsibilities are of the individual employee managers and the union There are two options for this workshop It can be delivered in one day as an introduction to workplace accommodation covering the basics of the duty to accommodate DTA It can also be delivered in a day and a half providing participants with the opportunity to further apply their knowledge and deepen their understanding of the concepts that have been introduced in Day 1 The target audience is Union members and their corresponding supervisors and managers Duty to Accommodate Building an Inclusive Workplace was developed with a reference group of representatives of the Public Service Alliance of Canada PSAC and the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat TBS The following people were instrumental in providing expertise and feedback during the workshop development process Marie Ranger TBS Élise Lemoine TBS Judi Webb TBS Seema Lamba PSAC Terri Lee Ravals Mele PSAC Alex Roussakis JLP Dale Akerstrom Canada Border Services Agency Members of the JLP Advisory Committee on Learning Participants of the pilot session came from close to 30 different departments as well as from the PSAC The pilot sessions were held over the summer in Ottawa Montreal Halifax and Vancouver The sessions were opportunities to test the workshop learning contents and for participants to provide feedback which helped to
