  • Kensington Art Co-op: Art in Action | Town of Kensington
    see said Donna Sutton treasurer and past president of the co op The group has been around for the past 10 years but last year they started something they called Art in Action It s an informal program in the sense that there is no real funding behind it and it s very casual But the idea is that any artists who d like to come and use the gallery as an ad hoc studio may do so We try and encourage people to come in stay a while and visit If you re an artist you re welcome to come in and join whoever is working here You can sit and paint with us said Sutton We just try and form a sense of community she added Every time you sit and paint with someone you learn something from them The co op is run by a group of volunteers who take turns manning the gallery and most of them bring something to work on while it s their turn So visitors can usually find an artist working in one corner of the building or another The gallery is open from 10 a m until 4 p m every day from June 15 to Sept 15 and the public is welcome to come and set up an easel beside whichever artist is on duty or just pull up a chair and have a chat Art in Action didn t get many takers last year but with a bit of publicity the hope is that more artists will take advantage of the opportunity said Lise Jenova president of the co op Any excuse to create art she laughed Art brings beauty said Jenova It brings a different interpretation of the world to the people Everybody sees things differently When five

  • Kensington Names Ball Field to Honor Long Time Resident and Supporter | Town of Kensington
    Kensington and lived there for most of his life Don now 81 spent much of his time working for the town in some manner The Town of Kensington will be recognizing Don s contributions to the community by naming a ball field after him The ball fields are located at Community Gardens Complex where Don offered much of his support The field closest to the Royal Canadian Legion unofficially referred to as the Canada Games Ball Field will now be known as the Don Clark Ball Field Kensington turns 100 next year and we have had many citizens that have significantly impacted our town over those years and Mr Clark is one of them says Mayor Gordon Coffin Don served on the Town Council from 1979 to 1990 and with just a town clerk and one maintenance person he worked very hard with the other councillors and the former Mayor Gerald MacCarville to foster significant growth in Kensington Both as a business person and as a town councillor he was passionate about supporting the local community including Community Gardens Complex His business at the time Don L Clark Insurance has sponsored the Kensington Granites hockey team for at least 20 years and more recently the senior men s baseball team Don has served as the honorary Chair of the Zamboni Fundraising Committee and has always been quick to donate to other Town ventures such as the Kensington Police Fishing Derby and Bike Rodeo the Arts and Culture Festival and when Community Gardens was fundraising to install much needed lights in the ball fields I know he took his job very seriously and put a lot of time into town business says son Walter Clark He was passionate about supporting the local community including Community Gardens facilities The official naming ceremony

  • Recent Juno winner to be Parade Marshall at Kensington’s Annual Harvest Festival | Town of Kensington
    will be Rose Cousins a singer songwriter that hails from Kensington with a recent Juno win to add to her list of accomplishments She will also be the Guest Speaker at the Opening Ceremonies for the Harvest Festival on August 19 2013 at 7 15 The Mammoth Street Parade will take place on Saturday August 17 in the streets of Kensington The parade s theme will be Travelling Through the Years to coincide with the Town s upcoming centennial in 2014 The parade which usually has up to 150 floats every year is a major draw to the Kensington area and a big part of the Harvest Festival Rose Cousins a Kensington native and winner of the Miss Community Gardens Pageant in 1994 has been busy in the music scene since leaving PEI She has a number of wins under her belt including Juno Solo Roots and Traditional Album of the Year 2013 ECMA Female Solo Recording of the Year 2011 ECMA Female Songwriter of the Year 2010 and Canadian Folk Music Award Contemporary Singer of the Year 2012 Her recent single Go First was recently featured on Grey s Anatomy episode a show well known for breaking out new

  • Kensington site of peewee AAA baseball tournament this weekend | Town of Kensington
    Cardigan will also participate in the tournament All six teams play in the seven team P E I Peewee AAA Baseball League which also includes Stratford Each team will play three round robin games with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals on Sunday at 11 a m The semifinals will feature the first place team taking on the fourth place squad and the second and third place teams clashing The winners will then meet in the winner take all final at 2 p m or 30 minutes after the conclusion of the last semifinal game First year This is the first year the Cornwall and Kensington associations have merged at the AAA level and the Cougars are off to a 2 1 won lost start in league play including an 18 8 win over West Prince a 5 0 victory against Summerside and a 5 4 extra inning loss to Charlottetown The Cougars first tournament game will be under the lights on Friday against Sherwood at 8 30 p m The Cougars close out the round robin with games on Saturday against Cardigan at 12 30 p m and Charlottetown at 3 p m Team members The 12 member Cougars roster is comprised of Max Benton A J Cahill Dylan Cameron Bailey Clark Nicolas Havenga Chandler LaPorte Garett MacDougall Nathan Mahar Logan Saulnier Evan Stapleton Noah Stewart and Nicholas Trainor Andrew Cameron Dave Benton and Mike Saulnier coach the Cougars Canteen services The Cougars will also be operating a canteen as a fundraiser and there will be barbecued hot dogs and hamburgers drinks potato chips and different treats available The Cougars will also be selling tickets on a draw for a new bat Schedule Following is the schedule Friday June 21 6 15 p m Summerside vs Charlottetown

  • Kensington/Summerside Relay for Life raises $51,000 | Town of Kensington
    was these people that gave me hope They really were such incredible role models and I can t thank them enough George Aiken was also one of the original supporters of the Kensington relay He was principal of KISH at the time Like Carver he s also become a cancer survivor in the years since that first relay He feels that it s important to keep coming back for two reasons the first of which is to support other survivors It s a matter of letting everyone in a yellow shirt survivors that there is support we re in this together you re not fighting it alone said Aiken Secondly for him it s important to keep seeing the other survivors The big thing for me is to see the same faces each year when you come back It s like touching base and saying oh you re still doing ok It feels good to be able to do that he said And he wasn t the only one checking up on old friends According to organizers there were 23 teams in Friday s Relay for Life that s about 300 walkers plus their various supporters said Gail MacDonald of the Canadian Cancer Society MacDonald said in total more than 51 000 was raised at the relay in Kensington That money will go towards helping fund life saving research and support important programs on P E I and across Canada she added Changes This year s relay was also a bit different in that it was a joint venture between Summerside and Kensington MacDonald said that the two committees realized they were both facing relatively small team numbers so they decided to hold a joint relay It worked well she said though the committees will make a decision in the
