    Edward Island the last province in Canada to join the movement Pay it Forward is an initiative that started with a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde then a movie starring Kevin Spacey and now has been adopted in more than 70 countries around the world The movement encourages a person to do one to three good deeds for others without expecting anything in return only that that person pays a good deed forward to someone else Mayor Gordon Coffin has proclaimed that May 24 2013 to May 23 2014 be the year of Pay it Forward Kensington The proclamation was made at the May 13 th Town Council meeting Pay it Forward is a way to get the community involved for the entire year leading up to our 2014 anniversary year says Mayor Coffin Even though the proclamation is only for a year we hope it will become a way of life for our residents Kensington has adopted the initiative as part of its 100 th anniversary celebrations The organizing committee is encouraging residents to let them know when they have a good deed done for them or witness a good deed in action The committee will track the

    26 2013 at 8 24 am KENSINGTON It was a homecoming of sorts for 10 year old Paxton Cole as she concluded a busy week having visited 65 Island schools in her role as the 2013 Easter Seals ambassador Paxton completed her journey at her home school Thursday Queen Elizabeth Elementary in Kensington Paxton has cerebral palsy which impacts her mobility With a broad smile Paxton walked into a packed auditorium to a standing ovation from her fellow students and teachers Her message is a simple one She said she doesn t want others to look at what people with disabilities can t do but instead look at what they can do See my smile not my walker she said Paxton had one word to describe her experience as the Easter Seals ambassador Exciting she said The Grade 5 student said travelling the way she did has been tiring at times but also very rewarding She said one of the best experiences she has had is being able to visit all the schools across Prince Edward Island and meeting the students When asked how many students she met in her travels Paxton said a lot Wherever she went her message was the same People with challenges can do anything she said One of Paxton s favourites sayings is I can do anything I set my mind to sometimes I just need to figure out the Paxton way to do it She is a shining example of the philosophy One of the things she likes to do with her friends is horseback riding The students in Kensington had a surprise for Paxton and the organizers of the Easter Seals Campaign The school presented Paxton with a cheque for 6 000 for the campaign Of the experience Paxton said she wouldn t

    that the new entry into the New Brunswick PEI Major Midget League will be based out of Kensington Hockey PEI completed a bid selection process and detailed review before making its final decision The Kensington franchise will replace the Cornwall Thunder franchise The new Kensington franchise that will play out of the Community Gardens and will join the Charlottetown Islanders as the second franchise in the New Brunswick PEI Major Midget League beginning in September 2013 This is an exciting day we are thrilled to have been given this opportunity A major midget team in Kensington will be good for our community and surrounding areas and plan to involve our team into the Communities of our players Community Gardens is a great facility and is centrally located for our players and fans We will be ready to go for September New look a new name and a team ready to compete stated Mike Gallant representing the new franchise Both the yet to be named Kensington team and the Charlottetown Islanders participate in the NB interlocking league through regular season schedule The two Hockey PEI teams then compete annually in a provincial championship finale to determine Hockey PEI s representative for

    pronounced CRAM BEE is a shrubby looking herb native to the Mediterranean According to the Alternative Field Crops Manual crambe is closely related to mustard It was first developed as a crop in the U S S R and made the jump to North America in the 1940s It came to P E I in 2009 That s when TCI set up shop in Kensington and started processing crambe seeds to make oils Now they need more of it quite a bit more Basically to meet our market demand explained Crystal Cormier Administrative Manager of TCI We have been seeing a steady growth of oil sales which in turn means a steady growth of contracted acres with Island growers TCI buys crambe as well as a few other varieties of plants most people unless they re a botanist have never heard of and processes them at their plant in Kensington Crambe oil specifically is sold to other companies that turn it into cosmetics hair products polyesters industrial lubricants corrosion inhibitors and even use it as an ingredient in synthetic rubber It s quite a versatile plant and TCI is hoping to attract an unspecified amount of new acreage Cormier declined for business reasons to say how much acreage they re looking for Crambe is quite profitable for growers It is on par or higher than most cash crops canola soybean and one advantage to growing crops for TCI is that our prices are stable and do not fluctuate as they do with some other crops pointed out Cormier It s also easy to grow Any grower on P E I would be able to grow crambe there s nothing special or specific about it We ve had great success with the crop and the yields she added Anyone who d
