  • Town of Kensington to be a part of Atlanticade | Town of Kensington
    their 100th anniversary celebration as a town On Sunday June 29th the Community Gardens Complex will become the focal point of an array of activities designed to entertain both Atlanticade participants and local residents Things will kick off at 4 30 pm with food and refreshments outdoor games for kids live musical entertainment a busker performance a bike display and other activities that will take place over a two hour period Then at 7 pm the complex will host an evening gospel concert open to everyone with a 10 admission charge at the door Atlanticade organizer Dale Hicks was approached by town officials earlier this year about the potential of teaming up with the motorcycle event which will be held for the third straight year on PEI I think this is a tremendous idea to have an activity in a neighboring community Although Summerside is the focal point for the festival it is nice to have a presence in other communities such as Kensington stated Hicks Atlanticade also has an activity or two planned for Borden throughout the course of the five days I certainly like the idea that the community in general will be involved added Hicks We want this festival to be not just for bikers but also for residents as well These type of activities help dispel the stereotyping that sometimes comes with motorcycles Kensington Deputy Mayor Rowan Caseley and Chair of the Kensington 2014 Celebration Committee says the town is looking forward to the involvement with the motorcycle festival We look forward to welcoming visitors and Islanders to the Community Gardens Complex to help Kensington celebrate on June 29 said Caseley It will be great to welcome Atlanticade this year and we hope this will become an annual opportunity to welcome Atlanticade to Kensington It will

    Big Celebration in May Posted on February 18 2014 at 11 12 am Kensington PE February 18 2014 The Town of Kensington is pleased to announce they have a full weekend of events planned to celebrate their centennial birthday in May The three day celebration kicks off with fireworks on the evening of Friday May 23 rd The following day includes an Old Time Parade unveiling of three murals painted by local artist Anne Gallant and the Taste of the Island Buffet with PEI Comedian Patrick Ledwell and Justin Simard and Todd MacLean as entertainment Sunday May 25 will have an Old Fashioned Carnival in the Community Gardens a community walk and a Gospel Concert in the evening For a list of times and locations visit the town s website www kensington ca We are delighted to have Patrick Ledwell speak at our dinner He s said he s going to put a Kensington spin on his show so I am looking forward to what he has to say says Mayor Gordon Coffin It should be an entertaining evening The 2014 planning committee is booking floats and groups to participate in the Old Time Parade When you watch the parade you will see the transition through time from 1914 to 2014 including cars from each decade Businesses can pick a decade from 1914 to 2014 and plan their float accordingly The Kensington Girl Guides have picked the 70 s and we expect some neat costumes from them says Deputy Mayor Rowan Caseley who is also Chair of the Kensington 2014 committee Tickets for the Taste of the Island Buffet and the Gospel Concert go on sale on March 1 st at the Kensington Town Hall Tickets can also be purchased from committee members and will be available online at www

    on February 14 2014 at 3 52 pm The Winter Carnival judging for the Poster Contest and Window Decorating took place Friday February 14 2014 Councillors Marvin Mill and Mack MacLean met at Queen Elizabeth Elementary to judge over 30 entries They looked for how closely the poster reflected the theme of Happy Birthday Kensington and the overall creativity of the poster The following received prizes for their posters Heaven Lee Kinch 1B Abby Rice 2A Ella McCarville 2A Ashton Bernard 2A and Celena Rogers 2A Amber Elliott 3A Porter Weeks 3A Paige Wall 3A Hannah Caseley 3A and Skye Boutilier 5A Each student received a movie pass and a gift certificate to Cineplex Summerside Mayor Gordon Coffin and Deputy Mayor Rowan Caseley took to the streets to judge the window displays around the town They looked for the theme Happy Birthday Kensington and the general appearance of the display The judges decided on the following First Place Bakin Donuts Second Place The Home Place Third Place Helga Reisch and Sam 85 Broadway Street Honorable Mention Kensington Heritage Library The winners of the Snowman Building Contest were Cayden and Campbell Wadman The Winter Carnival organizing committee would like to thank

  • Kensington Reveals Cancellation Stamp | Town of Kensington
    4 2014 at 11 01 am Kensington PE February 3 2014 A new commemorative cancellation stamp marking the 100 th anniversary of the Town of Kensington s incorporation was unveiled at this year s Mayor s Levee Kensington s 2014 Centennial Celebrations Committee made application to Canada Post in 2013 for the commemorative cancellation stamp It was used for the first time at the Levee 2014 Committee member and Canada Post employee Elaine Chessman used the stamp to cancel the postage on a letter written to a future Kensington Mayor by current Mayor Gordon Coffin The letter is slated to be placed in a time capsule later this year as a part of the celebrations Kensington is justly proud of its 100 years of incorporation says Mayor Coffin The town has shown great resilience over the years and we look forward to many great years ahead Kensington s Deputy Mayor and 2014 Committee Chair Rowan Caseley said The Committee is very excited about the cancellation stamp and it is our hope that the stamp gets a lot of use throughout 2014 and beyond The cancellation stamp boasts a modified version of the Town s new logo with the years 1914

  • Commemorative Kensington Murals to be Unveiled in May | Town of Kensington
    High School She has studied Arts History at Mount Allison University in Sackville NB Graphic Design at George Brown College of Art in Toronto and studied watercolour and oil painting at Buckhorn Gallery in Ontario She is fluent in English and French and speaks Spanish and Haitian Creole after five years working in Haiti and the Dominican Republic She was the subject of a 1998 CBC documentary on her Petroglyph artwork and a Featured Artist on a CBC radio program in 2004 She has had several solo exhibits in the Maritimes including Ancient Connections Echoes and Journey to Ancient Africa Anne opened an art gallery in Kensington in 2007 and paints original paintings cards and calendars She offers art classes year round across PEI for all levels About the Murals There will be three 4 x 4 murals that will transform old black and white photos with full color to bring the history of Kensington alive The first mural will feature the Kensington Train Station with the focal point being the activity surrounding the station Mural Two will depict a streetscape of Kensington to portray business and commerce and more generally the way of life the year the town was incorporated The third mural has been left to the interpretation of the artist The 2014 Planning Committee decided to leave the concept of the last mural to the artist and let her express what 2014 means to her When the murals are unveiled in May 2014 the third mural will be a surprise to everyone but the artist Watch the Progress If you stroll down Broadway Street in Kensington in the next few months stop at 59 Broadway to take a look at the progress Anne welcomes the input and feedback of residents Anne says What makes this project even
