The Role of the Club Manager 2 years 9 months ago 350 schukey User OFFLINE First Timer Posts 24 Thank you received 1 Karma 0 I gotta say I really like this idea for multiple reasons It s damn near impossible for me to find a summer job that allows me to still stay connected with bowls during the summer because it seems like 99 of employers who hire students for the summer want them to work weekends plus no vacation therefore no districts WOBA nationals etc But that s just my biased view of things Speaking as a student entering Sports Management this sort of thing would look really good on a resumé and as we all know the job market is tough out there I like what you ve listed so far for the job description but I think there needs to be a little more If this is going to be a temporary full time job there would need to be more things to keep the Manager busy Now this might be crazy talk but what about expanding this Club Manager to more than one club It might take a little driving but I think it s reasonable to set up a rec league or something similar for 4 or 5 days a week at separate locations Example Sunday night at club A Monday night at club B Tuesday night at club C etc It wouldn t take much work once you got it up and running the biggest thing you d have to work on would be publicity and getting the league s started Just my idea anyways The administrator has disabled public write access The following user s said Thank You pondball The Role of the Club Manager 2 years 9 months ago 352 PBA1 User OFFLINE First Timer Posts 9 Thank you received 1 Karma 0 When I put forth this concept back in 1997 the Club managers days were full with just a single club A day begins at 7 am by dragging the greens then putting roast in the slow cooker or turkey in the oven for the lunch meal that is provided Monday Wednesday and Friday for a cost Then he goes out and cuts the greens and rolls them He then sets up the greens and gets the mats out for the 10 am morning draw He does the draw then finiishes the meal prep while the seniors bowl he serves the meal and opens the bar and preps for the afternoon draw On tuesday and thursdays the same things are done but with supper and evening draw This leaves Tuesday and thursday mornings to go to schools senior centers and do promotion in the community Monday wednesday and friday afternoons the work is on soliciting sponsors and meeting media Saturdays are reserved for competitive league play with other clubs or tournaments and Sundays are interclub league or tournaments During the week every draw has a specific purpose some may

Changing the Game of Bowls 2 years 9 months ago 344 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 Chris Scullion just posted an interesting link in Club MVP fb ed regarding a small sport making it big Check out this story on Ultimate Frisbee to see where they did things right Then come on back here and start loading up this thread with ideas on how you would change the face of the game to make it more attractive Does it involve shorter games faster games louder games One thing is for certain If we are to attract some major sponsorship along the lines of a Nike or Under Armour etc we better have an exciting product to offer them The administrator has disabled public write access Changing the Game of Bowls 2 years 9 months ago 347 PBA1 User OFFLINE First Timer Posts 9 Thank you received 1 Karma 0 There is profit involved for someone that equals desire for success That is the fundamental missing element in bowls at all levels be it local club or provincial or national success The administrator has disabled public write access Page 1 Board Categories Main Forum

Bowls Scene Club News Attracting New Members Page 1 TOPIC Attracting New Members Attracting New Members 2 years 9 months ago 336 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 Over in the Club MVP FB page this topic was introduced by Norm Trafford Here is a suggestion for clubs to get new members Not New But one that has been used by curling clubs etc to get members clubs seeking new members run a raffle with a suitable first prize whether it be a big screen TV a Smart Phone or whatever with a codicile on the ticket which says and other subsidiary prizes When draw is made whoever wins the prize wins and all others who bought tickets and are not a member of the club or have not had a lawnbowls membership in last 3 years win 2nd prize of a free membership in the club with exception of having to pay the Association dues which provide the insurance for when they are on the greens Everyone likes free stuff and if you get a bunch of new members out of it you have to offer something that gets them into the club regularly ie a schedule with established club bowlers to teach and mentor them so they get to know and understand the sport As a rule you can garner about 30 of those who join to stay after the first year and that my friends is how you get your club to grow There are other options that have worked but this one is the most effective I have seen The administrator has disabled public write access Page 1 Board Categories Main Forum Welcome Mat Win a Set of Taylor Bowls Suggestion Box What s Happening in the Canadian Bowls Scene
