PBA CANADA was unanimously voted into membership Going forward here in Canada this means PBA CANADA is now the official sanctioned operator of indoor bowls and PBA CANADA may begin to promote itself as such to seek funding to operate events and to work with and on behalf of indoor clubs and indoor bowlers We also now possess the official recognition needed to assist with groups wishing to establish indoor facilities PBA CANADA is excited to begin this new chapter of growth for the sport here in Canada The administrator has disabled public write access Official governing body for Indoor bowls in Canada 2 years 9 months ago 354 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 Well done Jamie We have spoken on this before and I think both agree that the future of the sport lies in the ability of a strong group in Canada to forge ahead with a plan to develop Indoor Bowls in Canada We have the shortest outdoor season of any of the competitive nations yet probably have fewer legitimate Bowls Centres than any of those same nations Back in May 1984 I was fortunate to have represented Canada for the first time at the Gateway Masters Invitational Singles In Worthing England the filed included David Bryant Willie Wood Peter Belliss George Souza Darby Ross John Bell Frank Souza Each of them had been playing bowls 12 months of the year I hadn t rolled a bowl since the previous October and that was in a snowstorm at the Agincourt Snowbird Triples aptly named To a Tee none of the other International players could understand why we in Canada didn t have more Indoor Facilities I had no explanation back then however I have been wondering why ever since If

The rain didn t start until after we were all at the reception hall Our main orders have arrived and sales are brisk at MVP Sports this year and we also thank our customers for that What I really enjoy about this time of year though is not just the sales they help but the opportunity I get when customers drop by our shop to work with them on their deliveries Already this year I have felt like I have sent home a dozen happy campers For some it was as simple as the grip for others it was their stance or alignment For many it was their follow through or lack thereof Stay tuned for an upcoming blog on my first 4 videos that I hope to have up and running in the Resource section within the next few weeks These will be short and sweet and I hope very useful not only to players but to coaches as well Last night in Campbellford I got a chance to go through these once again and I find bowlers are always amazed what a simple change can do to help their deliveries In this Coaching section I hope to also attract a few of Canada s other top coaches to aid in responses to your questions No doubt there will be some differences of opinions just as there are different deliveries but all will be offered with the intent of helping you out Cheers and have a great season The Delivery Doctor The administrator has disabled public write access Coaching Videos coming soon 2 years 10 months ago 333 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 I am very close to completion of the first in our series MVP Sports Bowls Tips by The Delivery

year 6 months ago 615 debedeen User OFFLINE First Timer Posts 24 Karma 1 Not sure how many responses this will get but i d love to get some commentary about shot selection Attached is a head that came up in a recent game I thought it was an interesting example to bring up as the lead and the skip had differing views of what needed to be played despite the fact they both agreed on what the opposing skip would do In the attached example you are playing as the blue team You are tied with red in the game with 5 ends to go It s been a back and forth game no real edge to either team Both Lead and skip agree the opposition will play up and through the head to either remove shot bowl or trail the jack back Blue holds shot Red holds second and it is a measure for 3rd 4th Red skip holds the hammer You delivered your first as the shortest bowl on the right side Red Skip delivered his first bowl right through the head end up on the far left behind the head missing the jack and bowl Red bowls are roughly three feet behind and blue one at the very back is 6 feet Bowls in front range from 2 feet to 3 feet short What would you do Play defensive or play offensive Block the draw overdraw or try to make the shot first and move the blow jack to another location Both you and your lead agree red will continue to throw right through the head Thoughts Attachments This image is hidden for guests Please log in or register to see it The administrator has disabled public write access Page 1 Board Categories Main Forum Welcome

I witnessed it LOL There are other instances I have seen as well This is supposed to be competitive but it is still a Gentleman s Game or is supposed to be LOL Kevin Jones Umpires cant involve themselves in a game unless asked by a player Let em play James McLellan Dead ends are blanks Your strategy can then change to a more up tempo game in which killing an end to defeat your opponent is an option instead of killing an end to save yourself You could be winning 16 12 with 2 ends to play and you elect to blank them to win makes games much faster too Chris Scullion Make Triples a two bowl per player event only Last Edit 2 years 9 months ago by pondball Reason additional item The administrator has disabled public write access Which rule do you think needs changing first 2 years 9 months ago 338 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 Remi Canuel Allowing players to practice on the same rink and in the same direction as they will be playing in the tournament no reason why they can t most other games allow it if not for specific periods of time curling does it hockey does it soccer does it hmmm bowls doesn t but there is no logical reason why not is there Vincent Donohoe When the jack is delivered over the required distance play it where it lands and do not centre it I actually love this concept it should speed up the game just a little I would also add in a penalty clause wherein a jack that is delivered short into the ditch or OB would incur a one shot deduction from score and opposing team would then place jack where they wanted Norman Trafford I would like to see an unsportsmanlike conduct rule when someone deliberately manipulates a rule to their favor ie a Foot Fault when some walks two greens over and fires at the head Ooops I foot faulted we will have to play end over It has happened I witnessed it LOL There are other instances I have seen as well This is supposed to be competitive but it is still a Gentleman s Game or is supposed to be LOL I understand what you are asking for Norm but this would come under one of those subjective category rules and would be extremely tough to enforce Kevin Jones Umpires cant involve themselves in a game unless asked by a player Let em play That s all we ask in every other game we play whether it be hockey soccer curling golf Curling is probably one of the only games where a ref is not the centre of attention Bowls might be a close second My suggestion is that while I like the idea of an ump being called for rulings or measures only there may be other instances where they may step in I

  • MVP Sports - Club MVP - Topic: The Grip (1/1)
was struggling with his games rarely reaching the top end of single digits in his singles games We were doing video coaching sessions in the Roselawn bullpen getting bowlers to play 8 bowls 2 forehand draws 2 backhand draws 2 forehand drives 2 backhand drives and that s about all that we required to be able to pinpoint one thing for the bowler to take home and work on in this lad s instance we noticed that a lot of his lack of accuracy came from a rather contorted grip and thus the advent of the method we now use and demonstrate in The Grip video It is a natural grip There is no stress with this grip It allows for a complete and timely release of the bowl It allows for a smoother release of the bowl It negates the need for any monster backswing and lends itself to learning the next stages of the delivery after the Setup Stance namely the Backswing or lack thereof and the Follow Through These are the next three topics in the video series and I hope to have them up and running very soon As soon as they are ready I ll post them on our website and then some additional observations I have had with the bowlers I have coached over the years The administrator has disabled public write access The Grip 2 years 5 months ago 602 pondball Admin OFFLINE Administrator Posts 179 Thank you received 7 Karma 2 Oh yeah forgot to mention it took a few attempts but we finally got the young bowler to change their grip to our more relaxed one and low and behold they were able to reach double digits in their games We had asked why he was gripping the bowl in that
