  • National Dental Assisting Examining Board
    The NDAEB was established on November 15 1997 at which time the responsibility for the administration of the national examination of Dental Assistants in Canada was transferred from the Canadian Dental Assistants Association CDAA What Is The NDAEB The NDAEB is an independent Board endorsed by many dental assisting associations and regulatory bodies The Board has nation wide representatives from the Dental Assisting Regulatory Authorities the Canadian Dental Assistants Association the Canadian Dental Association the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada dental assisting educators from accredited and non accredited educational institutes and the public Mission The NDAEB s mission is to assure individuals have met the current national baseline standard in the knowledge and skills required by Canadian provincial or territorial regulatory authorities for recognition as an intra oral dental assistant Vision The NDAEB will strive for excellence in the provision of valid and reliable national dental assisting examinations Values The NDAEB is committed to fairness transparency and excellence in the services it provides to candidates stakeholders and the public Board of Directors The National Dental Assisting Examining Board is comprised of representatives from various stakeholder groups including the Dental Assisting Regulatory Authorities DARA dental assisting educators from both CDAC accredited and non accredited schools the Canadian Dental Assistants Association Canadian Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada and the public The Board also includes a non voting position for a Student Observer The Board members are as follows Officers NDAEB President Ms Leslie Riva CDA College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia NDAEB Vice President Mr Raymond Bucoy CDA II Educator Non accredited Programs NDAEB Past President Ms Jennifer Tewes RDA College of Alberta Dental Assistants Members Dr Daniel Albert Canadian Dental Association Ms Susan Anholt RDA BA Saskatchewan Dental Assistants Association Ms Calla Effa RDA Canadian Dental Assistants Association Ms Armenia Evaristo RDA Manitoba Dental Association Ms Ronda Marr CDA New Brunswick Dental Society Ms Elaine McKay RDA Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada Ms Paula Parsons CDA Newfoundland Labrador Dental Board Ms Donna Rushton RDA Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia Ms Carey Thomson RDA Educator Accredited Program Ms Gladys Vivian BSW Public Member Dr Ray Wenn Dental Council of Prince Edward Island Chief Examiner Written Examination Donna Selski CDA RDA MA LaT Chief Evaluator Clinical Practice Evaluation Michele Rosko CDA B Ed Student Representative Non Voting Ms April Delaney RDA NDAEB Chief Administrative Officer Registrar Mr Stephen Grundy The NDAEB Certificate Will Provide assurance that dental assistants in Canada have met the educational requirements that allow for provincial registration certification licensure listing and help facilitate labour mobility The NDAEB certificate is a one time acquisition that does not require annual renewal Is the NDAEB Certificate Required in Every Province Territory in Canada The NDAEB certificate is presently required for all new dental assisting graduates seeking registration licensure in the provinces of British Columbia Alberta Saskatchewan Ontario Manitoba New Brunswick Prince Edward Island Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador Dental assistants are urged to contact the

    Two Part NDAEB Certificate International Applicants Candidates educated outside Canada are required to complete a mandatory two part NDAEB certificate process Friday April 29th 2016 205 2255 St Laurent Blvd Ottawa Ontario K1G 4K3 Phone 613 526 3424 Fax 613 526 5560 e mail email protected Office Hours 8 00am 4 30pm EST Monday to Friday When applying to write the NDAEB exam please read the information on the exam application and in the Candidate Handbook carefully Details regarding all aspects of exam administration including application processing exam preparation and post exam administrative details are available in the Candidate Handbook The National Dental Assisting Examining Board complies with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act PIPEDA Please be sure to read the Privacy Policy Domain Description The National Dental Assisting Examining Board conducted a thorough review of the Domain Description in 2010 The revised Domain Description becomes effective on January 1 2011 Stakeholders including all schools Dental Assisting Regulatory Authorities dental assisting associations and the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada have been advised The next review of the Domain Description will be conducted in 2015 To view the revised Domain Description click here The Domain Description for Dental Assisting is the knowledge skills attitudes and behaviours the dental assistant should possess upon entry re entry into practice and is utilized for Preparation of examination candidates Dental assisting education Examination development and review When preparing for the NDAEB exam candidates are advised to refer often to the Domain Description for Dental Assisting which is found in the Candidate Handbook The Domain Description is reviewed periodically to ensure its content reflects current entry level practice for dental assisting in Canada The next Domain Description review will be conducted in 2015 NDAEB Examination Sites British Columbia Chilliwack Cranbrook Kelowna Nanaimo Prince

    00am 4 30pm EST Monday to Friday Clinical Practice Evaluation General Information The NDAEB developed a Clinical Practice Evaluation CPE for use by Dental Assisting Regulatory Authorities DARA in the licensing registration of dental assistants See the CPE Handbook on this site for general information Photographs of instrument and supply tray setups are available on this site Please note the photos represent generic setups All evaluation sites may not provide exact instrument and supply items as shown in the photos Some items may be substituted for similar instruments or materials Some DARA require graduates of Canadian non accredited and out of country educational programs to successfully complete a two part NDAEB certificate to include the written examination followed by the CPE To confirm the requirement for the CPE in your province please refer to the Registration Licensure section of this website for DARA contact information The NDAEB administers the Clinical Practice Evaluation at sites across Canada four times annually For CPE sessions and application deadline dates please see the calendar on this site The fee for the full CPE session 9 skills is 1200 00 CAN only made payable to the NDAEB This includes a non refundable 100 00 CAN only application fee 1100 100 The fee for re taking individual skills is 200 00 CAN only per skill plus a non refundable 50 00 CAN only application fee Candidates registering for 6 or more skills are required to pay the full fee of 1200 00 CAN The Clinical Practice Evaluation includes the following nine 9 skills Skill 1 Exposes dental radiographs Skill 2 Obtains preliminary impressions for study casts Skill 3 Applies and removes dental dam Skill 4 Selective coronal polishing Rubber Cup Skill 5 Applies treatment liner No Pulpal Involvement Skill 6 Applies and removes matrix and wedge

    will begin to test to the revised standard on the March 2017 Written Exam The revised Domain Description will not affect the Clinical Practice Evaluation CPE at this time Should any future changes be made stakeholders will be advised in due course Please note the following overview of the eight areas of the revised Domain Description including the 2016 test blueprint weightings for each Domain Area Test Blueprint Weighting 1 Conduct Appropriate to a Professional Setting 5 10 2 Dental Sciences 7 12 3 Clinical Support Procedures 5 10 4 Patient Records 5 10 5 Patient Care Procedures 40 50 6 Practice Management Procedures 5 10 7 Laboratory Procedures 5 10 8 Preventative Procedures 15 20 The revised Domain Description may affect dental assisting education particularly programs that do not presently include the additional core skills in curriculum Non accredited programs submitting curriculum documentation for the years 2017 and beyond will be required to include the additional content to assure continued exam eligibility for their graduates We expect accredited programs will follow direction from the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada regarding additions to the national standard I wish to thank our Chief Examiner Donna Selski and her committee for their diligent work drafting and revising the new Domain Description as well as individuals and stakeholder organizations for taking part in the Domain Description review process The next review will take place in five years at which time stakeholders will again be invited to participate The NDAEB is confident that the revised Domain Description for Dental Assisting will serve the dental community well into the future Stephen Grundy Chief Administrative Officer Registrar New Chief Administrative Officer and Registrar At its June Annual General Meeting the NDAEB Board of Directors welcomed Mr Stephen Grundy as the organization s new Chief Administrative Officer and Registrar Stephen brings to our team an abundance of experience with leading national not for profit partnerships He has consistently coordinated successful and innovative multi organization strategies across Canada These efforts have included roles such as Lead Consultant for Active Canada 20 20 A Physical Activity Strategy for Canada and National Facilitator of the Foodborne Illness Response Protocol Exercises for Canada which were conducted across the country in response to the 2008 Listeriosis outbreak He has held various leadership positions including Executive Director for Go for Green and Director of the Heart of Ottawa Medical Centre Stephen is a recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for Service to Canada He has demonstrated a commitment to community driven strategic action teamwork and innovation throughout his career I am excited to address the challenges and opportunities that will shape the NDAEB in the coming years I m looking forward to building on the organization s solid foundation and collaborating with all stakeholders to assure excellence in the provision of valid and reliable national dental assisting examinations says the new CAO Registrar 2014 Dental Assisting National Occupational Analysis In 2014 the National Dental Assisting Examining Board NDAEB and
