June 10 Your union has some advice on how to celebrate this event Don t Both the NHU and our bargaining agent the Public Service Alliance of Canada are asking our members to send a strong message to the employer by boycotting all National Public Service Week activities At the best of times Public Service Week is a cynical exercise in tokenism a patronizing pat on the head followed by 51 weeks of taking away our rights our jobs and our standard of living This year with affected notices showering down on NHU workplaces across the country the tokenism and hypocrisy of Public Service Week has never been more evident The Conservative government armed with its long sought majority has launched a destructive attack on public services and the work of the women and men who provide them No region is spared No workplace is spared Egged on by right wing media and corporate backed think tanks the Harper government is carrying out its extreme anti public service agenda Robyn Benson the newly elected PSAC National President puts it well when she says We all provide these services and many others because we care about the well being and prosperity
