    the usual content features such like graphics and related items 3 1 0 Other template changes Continuing the process of validating Baseline CMS templates 3 1 0 Storage As Content Type In Version 3 1 0 a new content type was created along with a corresponding Classification list template that deals with Storage Items in the same way as Content Items Storage Items can now be displayed as a piece of content within its own web page along with the usual content features such graphics and related items The Storage As Content type also has several options that make it quicker and easier to publish to the website These options include Sync File Date displays the date of the latest version of the Storage Item Sync Title uses the Title of the Storage Item Sync Description uses the Description of the Storage Item Sync Keywords uses the keywords for the Storage Item Figure 1 Storage As Content page back to top 3 1 0 Other Template Changes The process of cleaning up the HTML in Baseline CMS templates was continued and a considerable amount of code was updated to the most current standards of validation As part of this process

    and allow for the future development of extended functionality such as drag and drop behaviours and context menus 3 0 0 Improvements to the Email Blaster and subscription process Native support was added for a new Email Blaster that will facilitate future development 3 0 0 Enhancements to Style Sheet functionality Improvements were made to Style Sheets in Baseline CMS that provide more flexibility and control when using this feature These changes mean that it is now easier to customize styles for elements that were not previously possible to modify Style Sheets now support CSS rules that use nesting and grouping An additional Manual field is now available on the Rule Properties page for style rules You can use this field to enter a custom selector that is used instead of the group of fields that make up the standard selector builder For example if you need to style a link that does not have a class or ID assigned to it you could use the preceding elements in which it is nested to create what is known as a contextual selector An example of this would look like HTML p class link a href url htm Click here a p Selector p link a text decoration underline The selector targets the paragraph with the class name link then the anchor tag within it but the rule applies to just the link itself Additionally selectors can now be grouped so that a single style rule can be applied to any number of elements at once An example of a group of selectors would look like p link p smalltext div smalltext font size 65 The rule targets any paragraph with a class name of link as well as any DIV tag or paragraph with the class name of smalltext Figure 1 Creating a custom style rule using the manual selector field back to top 3 0 0 XSLT Templates for Display Objects Introduction of a new Display Object platform that uses external template files and XSLT so that Display Objects are now easier to maintain and customize XSLT stands for Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformations and is used to dynamically convert XML data into HTML or XHTML documents for display in web pages back to top 3 0 0 Smooth Menu Display Object A new navigation Display Object was introduced that uses the new XSLT platform for Display Objects The new Smooth Menu uses jQuery animation effects and can allow up to three levels of dynamically generated menu items where the earlier Baseline menus would only allow a second level of navigation The Smooth Menu is available in both horizontal and vertical formats Figure 2 Vertical Smooth Menu showing third level of navigation back to top 3 0 0 Code Validation for Templates In Version 3 0 0 we began the process of converting the HTML in Baseline public templates meaning those available to Baseline CMS websites to current validation standards for XHTML In doing so Baseline generated web pages now

    8 0 Multiple List Classification Type A new template style can be used to create multiple lists of links for items contained within the child nodes of a particular Classification 2 8 0 RSS Feeds RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and is a content syndication format which is used to create content feeds from websites Baseline CMS now allows you to create RSS feeds so that users can choose to be notified whenever content that interests them is published on your website RSS automatically alerts users when something new has been posted lessening the need to actively go to a website and search for updates Obtaining the feed content requires a news reader or aggregator Users can subscribe to RSS feeds using a browser an email client such as Microsoft Outlook or free utilities provided by sites like Google or Yahoo On Classification pages with RSS enabled an RSS icon appears at the top right corner When a user clicks this icon they are taken to a page where they can select a news reader and subscribe to that particular feed Once the feed is set up content from that node is downloaded automatically to their computer and updated regularly as new content is published Figure 1 RSS Details tab for Classification node back to top 2 8 0 Multiple List Classification Type A new template style has been introduced which allows you to create Classification pages that display multiple Content or Classification lists for items contained within its child nodes This template is ideal for creating a page of aggregated content for example a top level node that serves as a Newsroom for lists of articles organized under different Classifications These lists are displayed at the top of the Classification page and contain a pre set number of

    Display Objects 2 7 0 New E commerce Foundation The Order Desk was replaced with a new e commerce foundation that offers more flexibility and convenience 2 7 0 Code Block Display Object A new Code Block Display Object allows Administrators to embed custom script based Display Objects such as jQuery plug ins streaming media and other forms of dynamic content There are two options for template styles Code Block In Frame the Display Object is contained within a surrounding DIV tag which is usually how the majority of Display Objects are displayed Code Block No Frame the Display Object is embedded without the surrounding DIV tag so that it is not affected by Baseline CMS Style Sheets The Code Block is essentially a simple text box where you can enter a snippet of code that is embedded directly within the chosen Shell area back to top 2 7 0 New E commerce Foundation The Order Desk was replaced with a new e commerce foundation that offers more flexibility and convenience Where the old Order Desk employed only Product content types this new platform can also be integrated with Display Objects articles and eventually other Baseline elements as well Shopping

    the website sitemap and starts out as a document of headings and titles very much like a table of contents Whereas a sitemap can be prepared with a variety of applications spreadsheet graphics program presentation program etc this outline makes use of a word processor In addition to page titles the outline also identifies content areas within specific pages for example a boilerplate description of your organization on the homepage Websites which require a thorough review and or re write of content can use the outline to begin point forming the new content Here again the website objectives can be mined to identify the key points that should be made Content can come from a variety of sources From the previous website from marketing and sales documents from business and marketing plans anyplace that relevant current and approved material can be found At some point as the content outline is built out it evolves into the content specification Now you re fine tuning the content prior to laying it into the cms The pages begin to look exactly as they will on the finished site complete with images formatted text and links The content specification can also be used for an internal review and approval process It can also be a good source document for the translation of content by a third party service NMA typically plays a support role here guiding you as you build out your content outline and specification However with start ups or with new initiatives we can play a more hands on role to speed the creation of effective high impact contact Website Population Here s where it all comes together The content from the specification is input into the website content management system This is called website population Again NMA plays a guiding role
