or Website therefore they can be associated with an unlimited number of Shells Websites The only limitation is that a Display Object Instance can be rendered to only one of the Render Locations as shown in Figure 2 For example if a Display Object instance is assigned to the Left Column it can then be associated with any active Shell but only within the Left Column Shell Area Figure 1 Display Object Types Note Event List Flash and all Multi Column Display Objects were added in later versions Figure 2 Map of Render Locations to Screen Location back to top 1 9 5 3 Style Sheets Baseline CMS uses the W3C standard for Cascading Style Sheets CSS to define a website s style presentation Please read Appendix B for an introduction to CSS Multiple Style Sheets Baseline previously included four Style Sheets CMS Extranet Public Extranet and Public that it applied to various sections of a website This was sufficient for a CMS that did not offer the ability to run multiple interfaces however to effectively support multiple Shells the ability to create an unlimited number of Style Sheets has been implemented One Style Sheet can be shared among various Shells and Ebulletins or it can be used for one specific Shell or Ebulletin One Shell or Ebulletin can also be assigned multiple Style Sheets Rules Baseline 1 9 5 provides more options for creating style Rules than in previous versions The following capabilities are now built into Baseline Full control over an element s background and border style Full control over an element s position and size Full control over an element s text properties Baseline 1 9 5 also provides the functionality to copy Rules from one Style Sheet into another This makes it possible to create a similar Style Sheet for a given Shell by copying Rules from another Shell s Style Sheet to use as a starting point As an example an Administrator could set up an Extranet using the same page dimensions and font styles as the public site while modifying Rules for specific page elements such as an alternate background graphic for the page header Selectors Baseline version 1 9 5 provides full control over a Rule s selector HTML tag name class and ID which allows for greater flexibility in targeting HTML elements Most HTML elements example DIV tag in Baseline are assigned a class name and many of those are assigned an ID identity Using a Rule s selector a group of HTML elements or one specific HTML element can be targeted by a Style Sheet For example an Administrator can control the style attributes for elements in Classification lists such as titles or text introductions The Administrator could also target a common element such as a hyperlink specifying a default colour used for all links site wide Compiled Style Sheets in Baseline 1 9 5 are now compiled to an external file rather than built and stored in each user s session Two advantages to compiling Style Sheets are Improves performance because Style Sheets do not need to be compiled upon every visit to a Baseline website Changes made to a Style Sheet can take effect immediately without users having to open another browser Style Sheet must first be recompiled back to top 1 9 5 4 Ebulletins The following improvements have been made to Baseline Ebulletins Template Based In previous versions of Baseline an Ebulletin would have been built by entering HTML and text into the CMS Baseline 1 9 5 still allows for this method Custom Text Only Ebulletin Type but now adds the option to create a template based email Currently there is one template based Ebulletin Type called Newsletter Figure 3 It consists of an optional header graphic introduction text HTML and text and an unlimited number of Newsletter Items Figure 3 Sample E bulletin Newsletter Newsletter Items contain a title graphic link and summary HTML and text All Newsletter Items are assigned a style to format how the item is displayed The styles that Baseline currently contains are listed below Graphic on Left Text on Right Text on Left Graphic on Right Left Aligned Items Graphic on top Centered Items Graphic on top Right Aligned Items Graphic on top Left Aligned Items Graphic in middle Centered Items Graphic in middle Right Aligned Items Graphic in middle Left Aligned Items Graphic on bottom Centered Items Graphic on bottom Right Aligned Items Graphic on bottom Graphic on Left Centered Text on Right Centered Text on Left Graphic on Right Right Aligned Text on Left Graphic on Right Banner with Graphic and or Text Note Due to lack of use any of these templates were discontinued in a later version of Baseline Cascading Style Sheets CSS All HTML elements within an Ebulletin Newsletter are CSS enabled This allows for flexible control over the style and positioning of these elements Baseline 1 9 5 comes with an Ebulletin style sheet that can be edited in the Style Sheets section of the CMS see 1 9 5 3 Style Sheets Style Sheets can also be applied to Custom Text Only Ebulletins however the author needs to include the correctly named style classes Storage Integration All graphics in an Ebulletin including those inserted through the HTML Editor are fully integrated with Baseline s Storage management system Using the Storage Picker makes it easy to include an image or document attachment in an Ebulletin and ensures that the latest version of the graphic or file attachment is being used when the Ebulletin is sent out Automated Tracking In prior versions of Baseline tags used for unsubscribe links and for tracking links and opened emails had to be manually inserted into the HTML code In version 1 9 5 these tasks are automatically executed All classification and content links entered through the HTML Editor or referenced in Newsletter Items are automatically formatted for tracking HTML based emails automatically relay notification back to the server
