    identification development and delivery of PD seminars and Executive Development programs through on going collaboration with other provinces and the CICA in determining resources and needs for member PD support and reciprocity arrangements for costs and accessibility of PD programs throughout the country through the creation and strengthening of long term strategic partnerships with Ontario Universities through consultation with members by way of surveys course evaluations task forces and the PD Advisory Group Professional development is delivered through two primary means Our Seminar Series of Courses are half day one day and two day seminars Each year the Institute offers over 650 seminars in over 26 locations throughout the province These seminars are delivered in a Fall Winter Program which runs September to February and in a Spring Summer Program which runs from May to July We produce a PD Catalogue for each Program with the Fall Winter PD Catalogue available in August and the Spring Summer PD Catalogue available in March Our Finance and Leadership series of Executive Programs are a series of off site retreat programs for acquiring the requisite skills knowledge and competencies for building and enhancing organizational value and careers Developed and taught by our acclaimed

    other provincial Institutes of Chartered Accountants and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants to provide nationally consistent internationally recognized standards and programs that protect the public and safeguard our international trading partner commitments The Institute s members in public practice are subject to mandatory professional liability insurance programs and may also be subject to practice inspection by the Institute These requirements ensure the maintenance and enforcement of high standards of qualification and conduct Other Institute programs support all Ontario Chartered Accountants in fulfilling their professional responsibilities Among them are a wide array of mandatory professional development programs and ethics and technical advisory services The Institute also facilitates CA contributions to the wider community These include such diverse activities as Free CA Tax Clinics for low income people and providing government with technical advice on a wide range of provincial legislative matters The profession of Chartered Accountancy in Ontario is governed by the Chartered Accountants Act 2010 Public accountancy assurance activity that lends credibility to financial statements is governed in Ontario by the Public Accounting Act 2004 Standards of practice are enforced by the Institute s Rules of Professional Conduct and bylaws Oversight is provided by the Public Accountants Council of Ontario comprised of a majority of eminent non accountants as well as representatives of the province s three recognized accounting bodies and which has authorized the Institute to serve as a public accounting licensing body Ontario CAs work in public practice businesses of every size education government and the not for profit sector and serve every facet of society They contribute greatly to international and domestic investor confidence in the soundness of the Ontario and Canadian economies Membership Demographics As of February 29 2012 Public Practice 10 507 Industry 14 768 Government Academe 2 346 Other 2 913 Retired 5

    matter The CA profession s commitment to excellence and the public interest provides the crucial foundation for this trust In fact Canadian CAs are recognized around the world for high professional standards and expertise Becoming a CA requires A university degree including 17 specified courses 3 years of practical employment experience with an Institute approved training office Completion of the Institute s Professional Program Passing the national Uniform Evaluation UFE one of the most demanding professional examinations in the world Regulation Throughout their professional careers CAs are subject to ongoing regulation to safeguard the public interest This demanding regimen includes Mandatory practice inspection and professional liability insurance programs for CAs in public accounting The enforcement of exacting Rules of Professional Conduct Continuing Professional Development requirements Comprehensive public oversight and discipline mechanisms The profession of Chartered Accountancy in Ontario is governed by the Chartered Accountants Act 2010 Public accountancy activity that lends credibility to financial statements is governed in Ontario by the Public Accounting Act 2004 Standards of practice are enforced by the Institute s Rules of Professional Conduct and bylaws Oversight is provided by the Public Accountants Council of Ontario About Public Accounting Public accounting is the business of expressing independent assurance on financial statements and other financial information of enterprises of every size to ensure that the information truly reflects their financial condition Large and small investors financial institutions and other third parties then use that assurance to help them make informed investment and lending decisions Many of those decisions involve investments in RSPs mutual or pension funds making the practise of public accounting relevant to nearly all Canadians Where CAs Work Public accounting is a core CA activity and always will be However some two thirds of Ontario s almost 36 000 CAs now practise outside public accounting
