class licence Should they choose to re acquire their commercial class licence all previous test requirements will have to be met Q8 Why have you changed the current downgrade policy A8 The changes are meant to improve road safety and ensure a uniform testing policy for all commercial licence classes including Ds All senior commercial drivers including class D drivers will now be required to fulfill every test requirement to successfully demonstrate safe driving practices If they do not fulfill their test requirements or choose to voluntarily downgrade they will be downgraded to a class G licence In addition the old downgrade policy created an inflated volume of class D licence holders as there are no licence renewal requirements to maintain a class D licence until the age of 80 and thus the majority of our licensing data for senior Class D drivers may in fact represent inactive drivers By making these changes the ministry will improve the integrity of its data and be able to better determine how many class D s wish to actively maintain their class D licence Q9 How can someone who has been downgraded regain their commercial licence A9 The amendments to the Senior Commercial Licence Renewal Program are not retro active and will be implemented on a go forward basis only If an individual has been downgraded due to a failed vision or road test they will be subject to the upgrade requirements of the class they wish to upgrade to which would include a vision knowledge and road test Licencing Renewals Downgrades If an individual has been downgraded due to an unsuccessful vision test the original class of licence shall not be re issued until satisfactory vision test results are received from the ophthalmologist optometrist or general practitioner If an individual had been downgraded due to a failed road test they will be subject to the upgrade requirements of the class they wish to upgrade to which would include a vision knowledge and road test Voluntary Downgrade If an individual choose to voluntarily downgrade their licence they will be subject to the upgrade requirements of the class they wish to upgrade to which would include a vision knowledge and road test Voluntary Downgrade If an individual choose to voluntarily downgrade their licence they will be subject to the upgrade requirements of the class they wish to upgrade to which would include a vision knowledge and road test Driver Intervention Program Downgrades If an individual is downgraded due to an unsuccessful vision test road test or not completing testing under the Driver Intervention Program they will be subject to the upgrade requirements of the class they wish to upgrade to which would include a vision knowledge and road test Medical Downgrades If an individual has been downgraded for failing to file a medical report they can submit the completed medical report within the medical reporting period applicable to their age e g 65 within 1 year from the licence downgrade to a DriveTest centre
