    met From Here Right Now The Visitor First Snow Tokyo First Snow The Silence and the Storm Northern Night Central Neighbourhood House Captured Escaped At This Point Covenant House Like Ancient Pots Re Appearances The Nature of Giving Punti di Vista Aqueduct Patterns of Commitment Collectors Michael C Rockefeller Decalog Research Discovery Previous Next Generations 2010 installation view Generations 2010 detail Generations 2010 installation view Generations 2010 installation view Generations 2010 Public Art Commission for the Toronto Transit Commission powder coated washers bolted to perforated aluminum panel overall dimension 2 5 x 40 feet In Generations portraits of an older woman and a young girl the artist s grandmother and daughter are placed at opposite ends of a long panel Their faces are composed of pixels created from coloured washers bolted to a perforated substrate creating a photographic effect The two images are visually linked by a series of geometric rings based on Spirograph drawings that run between them When creating a Spirograph drawing lines seem unconnected at first and the final pattern is usually one that can t be seen at the beginning In the context of Generations the looping spirals generated by this childhood toy are suggestive of

    whom I never met From Here Right Now The Visitor First Snow Tokyo First Snow The Silence and the Storm Northern Night Central Neighbourhood House Captured Escaped At This Point Covenant House Like Ancient Pots Re Appearances The Nature of Giving Punti di Vista Aqueduct Patterns of Commitment Collectors Michael C Rockefeller Decalog Research Discovery Previous Next Sweetspot is comprised of two ground level cast concrete parabolic forms and two elevated glass reflecting panels one of each at either end of the pedestrian walkway Sweetspot south end North Toronto red and grey The lettering on the panels is mirrored reflecting the surrounding South end context Sweetspot 2008 Public Art Proposal Final stage commission proposal for North Toronto Collegiate Institute concrete stainless steel glass viewer generated sound This proposed work for North Toronto Collegiate Institute weaved the science of sound travel with the active process of creating memory through voice The installation integrated a fence structure with parabolic structures at either end along with text based signage based on parting yearbook statements by the graduating students The installation operated as a communication and performative device activated by participants who could intentionally or unintentionally generate sound within its forms Sound traveled from

    Manchester Letherium Jetstream The Jack Pine Remembered Four men whom I never met From Here Right Now The Visitor First Snow Tokyo First Snow The Silence and the Storm Northern Night Central Neighbourhood House Captured Escaped At This Point Covenant House Like Ancient Pots Re Appearances The Nature of Giving Punti di Vista Aqueduct Patterns of Commitment Collectors Michael C Rockefeller Decalog Research Discovery Previous Next Fröbel House 2008 Fröbel House 2008 detail Fröbel House 2008 Research and Development thread tetra paks 10 x 12 inches This is one of many projects based on the ideas of Friedrich Fröbel 1782 1852 the German educator who designed implemented and named the first kindergarten program Fröbel s program fashioned itself around a philosophy of unity leading children to manipulate materials through various exercises called Gifts and Occupations to address forms of Nature Knowledge and Beauty Key modernist architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier passed through the program in its heyday and some writers have made the case that it provided the seed pearl of modernism Through an intimate exploration and reinvention of Fröbel s exercises Clark Espinal s contemporary manifestations highlight the parallels between Fröbel s concepts and modernist
