    through difficult circumstances and challenging times As members of the British Columbia Teachers Federation who work as teachers in public schools throughout British Columbia we know our work in support of students learning has never been more challenging For the past ten years government through its austere and harmful policies have shown they care little for public education or for the important work we do in service to Canadian society In schools throughout British Columbia teachers endure multiple indignities year upon year of reductions to educational budgets more challenging teaching assignments and workloads and a cynical willingness by government to condone these adverse circumstances while pretending all is well It is obvious to classroom teachers that all is not well Teachers want our union the BCTF to achieve enhanced salary benefits and improved learning and working conditions to uphold and enhance our professional status and autonomy and to make it possible for us to turn our efforts fully toward our shared and higher purpose which is to build a better educated more just more inclusive and compassionate society As a teacher with 30 years of experience in public education I am enormously proud and grateful to all those teachers who
