    there will be only a relatively small number of such questions on the final exam they will however be mandatory All the other questions will be of the short answer variety very similar in style to those you met on the midterm but there will be one important difference on the final there will be a number of optional questions For example you might be invited to answer say any six of eight questions on offer or something like that The questions may include requests for simple sketches and will generally require brief answers to fairly specific scientific issues Assignments 1 and 2 The mark sheets for Assignments 1 and 2 are available in the Main Office Room 205 of Stirling Hall indeed those for Assignment 1 have been available for some weeks as I announced earlier on this website and in class If the secretaries cannot find your results in the accumulated papers please email me and I will tell you the results Assignment 3 We are marking these assignments now and finding some very interesting contributions in quite a number of them many thanks for your imaginative suggestions We should have the results by the end of Tuesday and will advise you how to collect them Quizzes As announced earlier I decided some time ago that your final grade will be based on the best four of the five available quizzes so if you had to miss one of the quizzes for some reason there is no need to make it up Earlier Exciting News Oct 7th The 2015 Nobel Prize for Physics has been awarded to Prof Art McDonald here at Queen s University for leading an international scientific research investigation into the behaviour and nature of neutrinos from the Sun An important reminder I do not
