    2 19 2013 Brown Economic Consulting renews sponsorship for additional five years Ottawa Ontario February 19 2013 Ringette Canada today announced that Brown Economic Consulting has renewed its long standing sponsorship for an additional five years The firm s principal Cara Brown is a former ringette athlete and the sponsorship provides a yearly scholarship known as the Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship The scholarship which is awarded each spring is currently entering its 13 th year Cara Brown and her firm have been ringette supporters for over a decade and we are very pleased to have the continued support said Natasha Johnston executive director Ringette Canada Many of our athletes are attending school while competing in ringette and being able to offer scholarships such as the Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship is a small way in which we can lessen the financial burden Cara Brown played competitive ringette in Sudbury and Calgary and participated in 17 Canadian ringette championships as well as serving as team captain at the World ringette championship in 1990 1992 and 1994 The Cara Brown Ringette Scholarship was originally formed to recognize Cara s involvement in ringette and is awarded to a registered ringette player who is actively playing ringette at the elite level who is entering a Canadian university on a full time basis for the first time who combines academic excellence and a minimum of a B average with a strong commitment to the sport of ringette Recipients receive a 1000 scholarship towards post secondary education and also receive a scholarship award certificate recognizing their achievements Ringette was an instrumental part of my growing up both in Sudbury as a child and in Calgary as a young adult It was magical and yet also taught me so many things about what it means to be successful
