    in the year 1912 the time was felt opportune to form a new lodge A petition bearing the signatures of 102 Masons was prepared for presentation to the Grand Master requesting dispensation to organize a new lodge The Lodge was instituted by Most Worshipful Bro A S Gorrell Grand Master on April 16th 1913 with Wor Bro L C Harris being installed as the first Worshipful Master Over time King Hiram Lodge became known as a Railway Lodge and many of the brethren were employed by the Canadian Pacific Railway Certain railway artifacts are used in the lodge to this day Over the years a few amalgamations occurred and King Hiram Lodge have welcomed the following lodges into our ranks Cupar Lodge No 47 1905 1998 Banner Lodge No 154 1920 1992 Earl Grey Lodge No 168 1921 1997 Flagship Lodge No 154 1993 2002 and Friendship Lodge No 212 1959 1992 We are celebrating our past and current brethren with a Black Tie Centennial Banquet on April 20th at the Wascana Country Club The event is featuring entertainment from Brenda Lee Cottrel and will include our Candle Ceremony There will be a photographer at the event to take photos

    left for the Boy Scout Camp for the meeting and the Ladies left for 5th Avenue Jewelry Lunch at Hopkins Dining Parlor then the tour of the tunnels There were 89 brothers assembled at 10 30 a m to open Lodge in the 1st degree by the Master of the Avonlea Rouleau Lodge where the Grand Master was escorted in and accorded Grand Honours after which the Brothers from Montana were received and then the Grand Master of Alberta and his party were received The Lodge then proceeded to perform the 1st degree for two candidates that had petitioned Avonlea Rouleau Lodge 156 This degree work was done by the members of the three lodges in Moose Jaw and area After a recess for lunch the lodge resumed work to finish the degree and receive greetings from the Grand Master or his Representative of the visiting Jurisdictions Everyone then assembled at the Masonic Temple for a delicious roast beef supper and entertainment to complete the weekend On behalf of myself and Lynne we would like to thank everyone who participated or helped to make this weekend run smoothly The next Tri Jurisdictional is in Waterton Park in southern Alberta on

    findings that showed that the Regina Masonic Temple was in very good condition for a building of its age and that we could continue to maintain our building to a considerable useful life with the revenues from our property s parking lot Some controversy initially surfaced regarding the proposed RPL purchase when an architectural drawing of a new Library complex displacing the Masonic Temple appeared in the media in April of 2011 Representatives of the Freemasons presented before Regina City Council in June of that year worried that their building and land were being expropriated At that meeting members of City Council including Mayor Pat Fiacco reassured the Masonic Temple representatives that the RPL had no authority to expropriate and that the City had no intention of expropriating the property but would respect the power of the owner Lodges to decide whether or not to sell their property According to Ford In making our decision we were appreciative that the City and its leaders had been very clear that they would respect the property rights of our owner Masonic lodges Ford noted that likely one reason the Lodges voted to keep their building was its historic value According to Ford the library s intent to purchase really gave us a chance to reflect on what we care about and of course as Masons it is perhaps not a surprise of the deep affection we have for our building President Don Ford formally made the announcement of the Mason s decision and responded to questions at 10 30 a m on Monday May 28 2012 at the Masonic Temple Building 1930 Lorne Street Following this presentation representatives of the media were invited for a quick tour of the historic and other architectural features of the building Brief Background on the Regina
