so that s a really good sign The race is slated to start at 9 a m The registration cutoff is 8 30 a m and the pre race meeting is set for 8 45 a m Competitors can register at www atlanticchip ca In addition to the open class the duathlon in Moncton will also have a junior class for those athletes between the ages of 14 and 19 The juniors will compete just half the distance of those in the open class The event will be staged out of Centennial Park with some of the streets surrounding of the park being used as part of the race course Besides some stiff competition next month s duathlon will be a fundraiser for the YMCA of Greater Moncton Over the past three years the event has raised funds for the Y but this year funds raised will go to a new project at the Y MYRAP a sport and recreation program designed for youth who might not be able to afford to join the Y Many of the people in running and biking clubs are members of the Y Comeau said It was felt it would be a worthwhile project to support Comeau said the event will probably raise in the vicinity of 1 000 What makes a duathlon popular to many is that most people know how to run and bike whereas a triathlon requires a third element swimming All competitors in the duathlon must be members of Tri N B to enter However athletes can join the association free of charge Besides registering at www atlanticchip ca those interested in competing can register on the day of the race prior to the 9 a m start or the day before the race in the parking lot at Centennial

helped TriNB produce a balanced budget for 2008 while employing a part time position our Executive Director and financing the benefits as will be outlined below As with any sponsorship agreement Subaru is entitled to a return on their investment and this is explained below in the responsibilities of TriNB and the presence of Subaru at each of our races Benefits to TriNB and Our Races TriNB is operating with a balanced budget for 2008 due to financial contribution TriNB can ensure we have a representative at each race our executive director as early as the race director needs to help with set up membership and officiating TriNB can rent a van each weekend there is a race to get our ED and all the TriNB property swim buoys bike racks mileage markers signage safely to and from the event Race committees save the cost of freighting or picking up the TriNB property and returning it after the race as we now look after this for them TriNB can store all property in a clean dry lockable location to help prevent damage theft and prolong the life of the investment made to help benefit the races Subaru provides prizes to be handed out at each event Subaru offers discount coupons in the race kits Uniformity of the look in all our races makes the experience more familiar relaxing and enjoyable for the racers while helping the race look more professional Subaru has committed to long term support of triathlon in Canada and we are the first province in the Maritimes to attract major corporate sponsorship which will lead to our future vision to be explained shortly Benefits to Subaru Subaru is the lead corporate sponsor for the TriNB series TriNB displays Subaru signage at each event finish line gantry flags and banners Beginning next season should we continue with the agreement Subaru would be represented on all race related advertising posters shirts etc as the series lead sponsor There will be financial help coming from Subaru indirectly through TriNB to the races for this benefit Subaru is represented on the TriNB website as the lead sponsor of the series Subaru is lead sponsor of the series which does not affect the local sponsors already secured by the races All signage for local sponsors can also be displayed TriNB Vision I cannot emphasize enough the fact that this initial agreement with Subaru is simply the first step in a gradual building of a solid sponsorship here in New Brunswick for our races Subaru has long supported the sport of triathlon in Ontario and Western Canada to the point that various events have become world class and are televised annually on TSN With a high profile sponsor such as Subaru it is the intention of the board to pursue other like minded sports sponsors that will see the Subaru commitment as an open invitation to get on board as we grow We would then start to see more benefits at the individual
